The Challenge To Climb To The Top Is Coming With The Reveal Of Jusant

Jusant

A new action-puzzle game, Jusant, is revealed out there with Jusant mixing in a lot of those climbing mechanics

It is time to take things in a little bit of a different direction with everything we have had for Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Showcase thus far and now dive into Jusant. A nice little title that slipped through the cracks in the mix of all of the other big announcements but is still deserving a bit of time in the light. DON’T NOD definitely thinks so with the big reveal happening in the middle of the showcase even if Jusant is poised to hit the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in the Fall. Takes some guts to place a game like this in the middle of the Xbox-only run of things, so let us take a climb up the ranks and see just what is coming with this game. Yes, that was intended…

Jusant is another title in the growing list from the developer/publisher here. A new title that does not need to rely on the hyper-realist or over-the-top gore that many others out there have been going with recently. No, this one is all about climbing. Well, leans heavily into that kind of mechanic as we will be ascending multiple cliffs, buildings, and towers in Jusant while also solving puzzles along the way. All with a very tranquil and peaceful setting in the mix. Not to mention, most likely a solid story to have given the bread and butter of the developer so far. That feels like another thing to get excited about when it comes to all of this currently.

You can see some of the first gameplay for Jusant just below. Do take note of a few things, though, as it looks like our protagonist in the story will have some extra abilities in the mix to use. Abilities that will open new paths, and allow for further exploring. Also, most likely, to solve some of the puzzles in the mix as it looks like new handholds and things come to life with these abilities. It would be odd if Jusant was just a straight climbing game without any of those in there. Then it could be something that could be finished by just securing the UP command on the controls and coming back once they made it all the way to the top of the climb.

Jusant — Reveal

DON’T NOD is proud to unveil Jusant at the Xbox Games Showcase. Jusant is an action-puzzle climbing game releasing in Fall 2023 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Jusant will be available with Xbox Game Pass at release.

Experience climbing like never before in this action-puzzle climber and meditative journey to reach the top of an immeasurable tall tower and uncover clues along the way. Challenge yourself at your own pace, explore different paths, and unravel the secrets left behind from a bygone civilization with the help of a mysterious companion.

Players will need to master climbing tools and watch their stamina to successfully navigate this tower. They’ll be challenged to figure out how best to use their tools to explore and reach the different ways up, as they go higher and hone their skills. Different paths contain clues and leftover signs of whatever happened to the people that once lived there.

Accompanied throughout the climb by a peaceful, atmospheric soundtrack, let yourself be carried by Jusant's meditative atmosphere and discover a diversity of breathtaking environments. There are several biomes to explore, each home to unique flora and fauna. Prepare to face the elements on arid, windy slopes, find refuge in tunnels lit only by bioluminescence, and much more.

But you won’t be alone, as a mysterious companion will join you for the journey. The Ballast, an intriguing small creature made entirely of water, will guide the climber by waking nature along the way and helping to reveal hidden paths and clues of the tower’s unknown past.

Jusant is developed and published by DON’T NOD and will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in Fall 2023 and the demo is available to play right now on Steam.

It is interesting to see that the characters in Jusant do not speak in this trailer. That could be due to how early it is in the cycle of things but does make me wonder if the story is going to be presented in other ways instead of the traditional one. Similar to titles like Journey where so much was conveyed without saying a single word. Those are always fun and would also fit into the design cycle since most people do not talk when they are alone. Let alone, putting forth the physical exertion of climbing as Jusant will certainly have us doing out there.

Is it always nice to get smaller and more tranquil titles like Jusant or do you want everything hardcore all the time? Will we have anything spoken in the game or will they use the great methods the team and others have done before to share a solid story? How many different puzzle types do you think we will see as we climb up or will they stick to the same things we get in any game that has a climbing mechanic? Take to the comment section and then feel free to discuss it all. We will keep Jusant on the radar here and share all that we can for this one, so please keep checking back in for all of those updates and many, many more.
