Mara
A new project has been announced, Project: Mara, that will aim to take us into the real-world mental terror of a character named Mara
It looks like Ninja Theory is at it again and keeping the ball rolling on their innovations and attempts to bring a new way of storytelling to the video game world. This time with a new project only listed as Project: Mara. This time instead of going into the historical or fantastical, they are diving into the real-world horrors of mental health in a more modern time. That is the feeling I am getting from the description and very short tease for Project: Mara that we have with this new announcement. It seems like the next logical step for the teams to take to continue down their path of showing the world just how all of this can be for some out there and also get the conversations starting to help with some of the healing processes. I would think.
I wish we had more than all of this to share for Project: Mara but this is about it as it is just an announcement. I am overly interested to see how this all goes as it is going to be a title that takes place in a less fantastical or historical setting as we have seen from the teams in their past titles covering all of this. I can also see this being one of the scarier horror titles out there when it does finally hit markets as it should be based on more realistic things than the supernatural or fictional we normally get in games. I am insanely interested in Project: Mara and cannot wait to get further updates on this one. Hopefully sooner and not later.
Project: Mara — Teaser
Today, we are announcing Project: Mara, our new in-development experimental title that explores new ways of storytelling, and we’re excited to share the first details with you.
Project: Mara will be a real-world and grounded representation of mental terror. Based on real lived experience accounts and in-depth research, our aim is to recreate the horrors of the mind as accurately and realistically as possible. Project: Mara will be an experimental title and a showcase of what could become a new storytelling medium.
Since joining Xbox Game Studios in 2018, we’ve been hard at work on our upcoming multiplayer brawler Bleeding Edge, our new recently-announced innovative R&D project, The Insight Project, and of course Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. These projects will continue to drive our development goals for the next few years and will help shape Ninja Theory’s vision for our future.

What are your thoughts on Project: Mara based on what we have here so far? Do you think it will do what the teams are looking for or could it come across as insensitive for a few out there that do not want the world to know what they are going through? Could this be a truly scary horror title that will scare those who do not suffer into fully understanding what their fellows are going through? Let us know what you are thinking down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. When we have anything more to share for Project: Mara, you know we will do it all here. Just be sure to keep coming back to see and hear all of that.
