Final Fantasy Resonance Is Going To Take Us All Back To The Classics

Final Fantasy

The classic style of Final Fantasy is on the way back to us all with the announcement for Final Fantasy Resonance

A fun little announcement came out of the recent Nintendo Direct, with the announcement for Final Fantasy Resonance. A new HD-2D turn-based game that Square Enix is working on in the famed IP. One that will not only give us all a new experience to play, but also bring many classic characters and elements from the history of Final Fantasy. A blending of both worlds, and all coming on October 22nd for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC. A little odd that it's not hitting the other older consoles, but beggars and choosers, I guess. Let's have a look at just what this title will bring us in the IP, and which characters will be striking down more monsters in the mix.

You can see a bit more of it in action with the announcement video that we have for Final Fantasy Resonance, but this one is looking to take us back into a story that many might not have been able to experience in the IP up to now. Something that is based on the first story arc of the mobile game that came out, but made to work on a full console and PC release. All with the usual Final Fantasy affair of the world-saving heroes doing their thing. All with the fun twist of characters like Cloud, Tidas, and the Warrior of Light having another chance to shine out there in the world. Not that they really needed that, but it is a selling point to get more of us on board with this new turn-based title. Have a little look at it all a little lower down, then wait until we have a full gameplay deep-dive to talk about all of the little extras that the game will offer up to the world at large.

Final Fantasy Resonance — Announcement

The first HD-2D game in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy Resonance, is a celebration of classic and modern Final Fantasy that evokes the beloved titles of yesteryear.

This tale of Crystals features a strategic turn-based battle system with a modern twist, the return of chocobos, espers, and airships, in addition to appearances from beloved Final Fantasy characters such as Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light – all presented in stunning, retro-inspired HD-2D graphics that push the limits of pixel art.

Final Fantasy Resonance is based on the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Far from just a direct port, it has been refined and extensively rebuilt as a full-fledged console-quality RPG experience.

Final Fantasy Resonance launches on Oct. 22, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store on Windows. A Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, which features the base game plus useful in-game items, will be available. Finally, a Collector’s Edition of the game, which includes the base game and the Digital Deluxe Edition bonuses, as well as four unique physical items like an artbook, soundtrack, and a unique Final Fantasy Trading Card Game promotional card.
