Treyarch Delivers Free iPhone App for World at War

Ha! I fit the website into my one paragraph (5) more than they got into their press release (4). All kidding aside, I think the idea of having a free iPhone application to foster the experience of being a part of a game and community is a great idea. I give Treyarch a lot of credit. With the release of this mobile application and their separate map packs, they have done a lot for the player community surrounding Call of Duty: World at War. Even after 11 million copies sold, Treyarch is still fighting off the ghosts of CoD past. Not living up critically to their Infinity Ward predecessors, Treyarch has always lived in the shadows as the little brother that never could live up to older brother's name.

I think the new iPhone App is a great community builder for Treyarch and an excellent foray into creating a more robust online experience. I love stuff like this where you're talking to a buddy about whatever game it is you're playing and you want specifics on your bragging rights from the game. Now you'll be able to look them up without going home or turning on a console. Prepare to see a lot more of these in the near future. I don't mean just for shooters, but more specifically, MMOs, to look up, review and compare gear with your friends. Sometimes, you just have an absolute need to know whether that cloak gives you +14 to Agility or +16!
