Assassin’s Creed
New footage for Assassin’s Creed Mirage is out there now with a bit of the classic Assassin’s Creed coming back in to the franchise
Just as we all had promised during the Summer Game Fest and then the Xbox Showcase, we have a whole lot more to look at for Assassin’s Creed Mirage here. Gods, it would have been easier to keep all of this in one massive show would it not have? Anyway, the Ubisoft Forward went down, and not only did we get a rehash of the story trailer we knew was coming for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but a solid eight-minutes of gameplay to look at and show off more of what will be coming on October 12th for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Buckle up and see if you are ready to handle all of this.
Hew in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, as the story below will show, we are taking on the role of a character called Basim as we run around ninth-century Baghdad. A similar location as the first game, but different in a few ways. No matter the case, Basim looks to be a reluctant joiner of the Creed but quickly puts the street thief skills to use for the Creed and flees out. There is some training that goes down and the recap of the previous stories in the Assassin’s Creed line, and then Basim is set out to complete the various contracts out there. The standard affair for the IP so far, so now we can shift into the gameplay we have out there now.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage — Story
Coming October 12, 2023.
In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, you are Basim, a cunning street thief with nightmarish visions, seeking answers and justice. After an act of deadly retribution, Basim flees Baghdad and joins an ancient organization – The Hidden Ones. As he learns their mysterious rituals and powerful tenets, he will hone his unique abilities, discover his true nature, and come to understand a new Creed – one that will change his fate in ways he never could have imagined.
In this gameplay for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, we get to see Basim take on a new contract in the world after proving himself for a bit already. This looks like it is a little into the game, so do not think we are going to be as amazing as this out the gate. Here we get to see that the parkour has been slowed down a bit, for some reason, but the various tools and stealth we had before have made a way back in. From there, everything flows about the same as we sneak, scout, and hunt down the target out there in the world. A true return to the Assassin’s Creed form with combat being used only sparingly in the mix of things.
A new and interesting feature that seems to be coming in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a different way to link assassination kills. Not in the way of just stabbing and then throwing a dagger as we have seen before. That is still in there, but here we get to see a way for Basim to visualize and then attack many different enemies in succession out there. There is a meter that needs to be built up, so this is not going to be just an "easy mode" to play Assassin’s Creed. After the meter is filled, we can then select multiple enemies in an area and set Basim out to rapidly kill them as the master assassin he should be. It is an interesting feature and I am curious to see how hard it is to build up and make sure it is not the go-to every time we want.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage — Gameplay Walkthrough
If you want to learn more about the little things we glossed over, or to watch the Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay once more, here is a developer breakdown of the same gameplay you just saw. There is a little more on the various gasses and powders that can be used, but as we have seen in the past Assassin’s Creed titles, they just have different effects on everything. We see a little more on the way that Basim gets out of trouble using the environment, but not much more beyond what we spoke of before. We are just fans of behind-the-scenes videos here and wanted to have another reason to offer one up. Have a look and see if you learn anything more about the game now.
