The VGAs Tried To Augment Our Reality. How'd They Do?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 16th of December 2010 - 10:19 PM ]
So being as the VGAs have kind of moved away from being an awards show and are now just another way to sell ad space for gaming companies, you would think they would try to do something to bring gamers' interest back. Am I right? I mean you had the Brütal Legend hour-long ad when Jack Black hosted in 2008. In 2009, the biggest thing I remember was the teaser for Batman: Arkham City and a small attempt to get Samuel L. Jackson linked back into the show. Read More...

Review: TerRover
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 21st of October 2010 - 11:06 PM ]
Creat Studios generated a lot of buzz when it showed its downloadable title, TerRover, at E3 this summer. Then when the demo was dropped exclusively for PlayStation Plus members, excitement for the game was off the charts. Sensitive controls and dynamic game play showed the promise of a precision platformer – something the hardcore gaming community can always get behind. TerRover embraces and champions the game design concept of Trial by Death. Trial by Death is the process by which the player acquires knowledge of the game and its systems of control by forging forward without the necessary information to succeed, relying on continuous failure to derive the correct solution. X-Men: Destiny Revealed Somewhat
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 7th of October 2010 - 08:27 PM ]
Just in time to get fans overly excited about something at the NYCC, not that they wouldn't be in general, Activision drops the curtain and shows the world a teaser for X-Men: Destiny. Something that can be spied on at the Activision booth (#1833) for now as well as all over the internet by now, not to mention below. Looks kind of… well… it's a reveal trailer that reveals nothing. All that is know as of now is it is a game that has us the players controlling a new mutant recruit. Read More...

Review: Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of September 2010 - 09:05 PM ]
Hey true believers! It looks like our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back into the action saving not only New York, but four different dimensions worth of New York and realities. All after a small fight with Mysterio where Spider Man shatters the "Tablet of Order and Chaos," a few of the villains in each dimension find a chunk and get super-charged. With the help of Madame Web, each Spider-Man needs to collect these tablet pieces to make sure all reality doesn't crumble. You'd think a tablet with that power wouldn't be housed in a basic museum in New York, but then we wouldn't have the story. Read More...

Dungeon Seige III Gameplay Trailer Released
by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 3rd of September 2010 - 11:39 PM ]
What a way to kick off the Labor Day weekend! With PAX currently going on, there's going to be a lot of great stuff coming out of the convention and the first thing we get to kick off this holiday weekend is the new Dungeon Siege III Game play Trailer from Square Enix and Obsidian Entertainment. I have now watched this trailer three times and I still don't know what to say. We see a warrior type character and a caster archetype showing off the hack 'n' slash style game play we've come to expect from this dungeon crawler. The character models to me scream Square Enix; their digital footprint is all over this game. Read More...

Spider-Man 2099 Officially A Dimension
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 8th of June 2010 - 08:54 PM ]
Well my bubble is now busted. What I thought was a Judge Dread meets Todd McFarlane dimension has finally been confirmed as not to be. But instead called something stupid like Spider-Man 2099. Yea, The E3 video below confirms our worst nightmares. Oh wait... What..? Not our worst dreams but something we were hoping for. That's what I meant. Although you have to admit a Spider-Man/Spawn/Judge Dread cross over dimension would have been awesome to play through. Read More...

Obsidian Entertainment Developing Next Dungeon Siege
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 8th of June 2010 - 02:54 PM ]
It's been a while since I was truly excited about a game announcement, but this one is pretty exciting! Dungeon Siege 3 has been announced for NOT ONLY PC, but XBox 360 and PS3 as well. According to the press release, Dungeon Siege 3 will have Square Enix (Final Fantasy) on board as Editor, and Obsidian Entertainment (Neverwinter Nights 2, Knights Of The Old Republic) as the Developer, with Gas Powered Games (Dungeon Siege 1/2, Supreme Commander 1/2) supervising the whole process. So let's recap. Probably one of the best dungeon crawlers is being re-done in HD format across multiple platforms by some very powerful companies in the gaming industry. Read More...

Spider-Man Shatters Into the Judge Dread Dimension
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 4th of June 2010 - 06:35 PM ]
Ok, not really but it sure does look like a toned down version of Judge Dread in these new screen shots from Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions doesn't it? Of course it does. It also looks like a Spawn look has overtaken Spider-Man from these new screens as well, which looks extremely bad ass in my oh so non-humble opinion. But one question still runs in my head - what dimension is this one? Is it the same Roid-Rage one that the Goblin is seen in? Read More...

Let's See That CoD Black Ops Uncut
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 20th of May 2010 - 04:23 PM ]
The first amendment is one of the few things that we Americans love to hide behind when we are not being cattle and following the "in" crowd. When we truly speak our minds and in turn get ridiculed or condemned for what we say; All because it is against the majority. But that doesn't make it any less a right we have been empowered with so we can say what we want without much worry. You know who we have to thank for that, our great military men and women who go out under orders and slaughter those who would slap our hands with rulers for saying "poopie." So in honor of those men and women, I give you the First Amendment version of the Call of Duty: Black Ops trailer. Read More...

Review: Alan Wake
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 17th of May 2010 - 09:09 PM ]
If you follow me at all on here it should be no surprise that I have not seen much of a difference between Alan Wake and Silent Hill. At least that's my opinion from the viewpoint of the screen shots, trailers and the most recent live action Bright Falls series. I mean, they look so very similar. If you don't think so, then you should have your brain examined. Well, I was just recently able to give Alan Wake a good play through. A really good play through so I could contrast and compare between this new IP and the "older" Silent Hill IP. Read More...

Not So Naughty Bear Achievements
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 12th of May 2010 - 10:20 PM ]
For a game that is all about being naughty, I will say that the list of achievements, and we can safely assume trophies, is kind of on the not so naughty side. Filled more with irony and secrecy if you ask me. Not to mention a few homages to other great franchises, namely Resident Evil sticks out from the list below. But where are the naughty titles for these things? I mean where is the Blowing Your Load or That's What She Said titles? Read More...

Review: Kick-Ass The Game
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 7th of May 2010 - 07:15 PM ]
The comic and film of this intellectual property have come and gone. Both spectacular in their own right. If you have yet to read or see either, do both. But what if you have done one or both already? Well did you know there is a video game version of Kick-Ass for the PSN and iPhone? There most certainly is. Why wouldn't there be, as merchandising is a great way to make more money off a great franchise. It is the capitalist way after all. Read More...

SEGA Embraces DRM For Alpha Protocol
by Brian Goodman [ Wednesday, 14th of April 2010 - 05:37 PM ]
SEGA, according to Eurogamer, has reported its intent to make use of the Uniloc DRM for its PC release of Alpha Protocol, despite past issues regarding the software. SEGA will be joining the growing group of publishers who have begun using intrusive authentication software in the name of protecting their PC releases. Since the inception of PC gaming publishers have been trying to find effective ways to balance protection against theft and unobtrusive gameplay experiences. How many people remember the funny picture wheel with older Lucas Arts games, or the frequently used “what’s the 4th word on the 9th line of page 36 of the manual” chestnut? Read More...
