by Binh Nguyen [ Thursday, 26th of March 2009 - 11:34 AM ]
Well it seems Utah is not as conservative after all. Utah Governor Jon Huntsman (r) has vetoes video games and movie retail restriction bill. To those who don’t know about it, it’s the bill (that was originally written by Jack Thompson and legislator Mike Morle) that would enforce strict penalties on retailers who sells M-Rated games and Rated R movies to “buyers subject to an age restriction or recommendation.”   Utah Governor Jon Huntsman (r) wrote a letter to House Speaker David Clark and Utah Senate President Michael Waddoups about why he vetoed the video game bill: (from Sainless: http://saintless.com/2009/03/25/gov-vetoed-hb-353/)“Dear Speaker Clark and President Waddoups: After careful consideration and study, I have decided to veto HB 353, TRUTH IN ADVERTISING ACT AMENDMENTS, and have transmitted it to the Lieutenant Governor for filing. Jack Thompson Disbarred That's right, one of the main thorns in the side of the video game community/industry has just been permanently disbarred as well as having to pay hefty fine by the Supreme Court of Florida. All of this for inappropriate conduct when filing his flagrant charges against Game, TV, and Music companies for their "Questionable" material in their formats. by Aaron BlueWolf72 Molloy [ Thursday, 22nd of May 2008 - 06:04 PM ]
"A celebrity is a person who works hard all his life to become well known, then wears dark glasses to avoid being recognized."  This is how JT treated him self when you watch him on any interview he would do about gaming.  With all his tricks and lies it was bound to catch up with him.  I assume there will just be another nut job who replaces his bag of tricks.   The judge who presided over Jack Thompson's Florida Bar trial late last year has recommended that the controversial attorney be found guilty on 27 of 31 professional misconduct charges. Among the Florida Bar offenses for which Judge Tunis has recommended a guilty verdict:Knowingly making a false statement of material fact or law to a tribunalKnowingly disobeying an obligation under the rules of a tribunalCommunicating the merits of the case with a judge before whom the proceeding is pendingUsing means that have no purpose other than to embarrass, delay or burden a third personEngaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentationEngaging in conduct in connection with the practice of law that is prejudicial to the administration of justice, including to knowingly or through callous indifference disparage or humiliate litigants or other lawyersMaking statements that the lawyer knows to be false or with reckless disregard as to the truth or falsity concerning the qualifications or integrity of a judge     Thanks to GamePolitics.
