Talk About Being Effed Out

Now this is a feat if I say so myself. Not the getting into the Guinness World Records book, especially since there is the Gamer's Edition. That would make it kind of moot to say that a game made it in. But in this instance, it isn't just making it in, it is the reason behind getting listed in the book. It is an effing awesome reason too.

Why did it get such an accolade? House of the Dead: Overkill drops the word that the majority of English speakers would say is the worst curse word. No, not Meecrob, although that would have been a little more impressive. But it drops the word fuck a total of 189 times through out the game. Thus making it the most profane game ever to be made to date. Yes, a Wii game is more profane than any of those XBox and PS3 games. Family friendly my ass.

I jest.

But the facts of this is that 3% of the game dialog is just that word. In fact the number of times it is dropped can be equated to about 1 time a minute. Not that that is the case in the game. Wouldn't make for very interesting dialog, but the number of times used compared to the hours of dialog makes it about that. Who'd have thought?

I guess this will make for another brutal drinking game. Just like the Meecrob episode of South Park, you take a shot/drink every time the profanity is used. At 162 to 189 you might get messed up just as well. Except I doubt there is a 30 second break where the f-bomb is dropped over and over, so that could be a saving grace in that drinking game.

HOUSE OF THE DEAD: OVERKILL BREAKS [AN EFFIN'] RECORD FOR THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS GAMER'S EDITION

London, UK - 9 March, 2009 - The global authority on record-breaking, Guinness World Records, today announced that recently released The House of the Dead: OVERKILL (SEGA®, 2009) has broken into the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition for most swearing in a video game with a whopping 189 uses of the f-word.

Setting a record in this brand new category, the title recognizes The House of the Dead: OVERKILL as the most profane video game in history. During three hours of relatively limited dialogue, the campaign features 189 uses of the f-word, which equates to just over one per minute and three percent of all words spoken in the game.

Video Games Records Manager for Guinness World Records, Gaz Deaves, said: "This record category pre-existed for movies, music and television, but House of the Dead: Overkill is the first video game to be awarded the title in the Gamer's Edition. It's a mark of the times." The new record will be shortlisted for inclusion in next year's Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition. Meanwhile, the 2009 Gamer's Edition hit stores last month and has already received critical acclaim from both the gaming world and the mainstream press. Enjoying a top ten position on the UK book chart, Gaming Guide Kotaku said about the book: "With entries for professional gaming, top selling games in history, the history of hardware and Guitar Hero, the Guinness World Records 2009 Gamer's Edition looks to be a must have for fans of gaming."

The House of the Dead: OVERKILL uncovers the ugly, terrifying, red hot secrets behind the House of the Dead; the daddy of all over-the-top shooters. While staying true to the classic gameplay this highly successful SEGA series takes on a new retro look with distinctive graphics, sound and attitude that add to its horror cool status. Also, because of the Wii RemoteTM, players will fight off zombies when they get too close; pistol-whipping jaws off and smashing in skulls with their shotgun butt.
