Since Oddworld: Soulstorm was first revealed to the world many of us have been wondering just what will be going on in terms of gameplay. Will it keep the same look and feel of the older titles or will it go into a new direction and embrace a fully 3D world? I am glad to say that we have word on that from Oddworld Inhabitants today and it looks like fans of the franchise will be happy to see that it is now a 2.9D experience. That is, we will have the 3D visuals but moving on a 2D plane in the actual game. Although the worlds will shift and twist as we progress to come close to a full 3D experience, but not enough to be considered fully that. I hope that all makes sense to you.

Along with that would also be the fact that the crafting system will be back from the other titles even though the story will be picking up from the end of New ‘n’ Tasty. It is a good thing if you are just now getting into the world and fun of it all. Not to mention the other good thing in Oddworld: Soulstorm that will have the 300 freed Mudokons joining you and adding to Abe's mystical strengths in the game. Something that you can speed through in about 15 hours if that is also your goal. I will guess you will not have all of those freed slaves by the end of it all.
While we do have new gameplay for Oddworld: Soulstorm, do note that it is not the longest or deepest dive into the game. It is basic, but still something to enjoy. Have a look now if you did not already jump down before reading all of this.
Oddworld: Soulstorm — Gameplay
Oddworld: Soulstorm picks up from where New ‘n’ Tasty ended. Abe has defeated Mollusk the Glukkon, his former boss and RuptureFarms’ meanest inhabitant, overthrown RuptureFarms and liberated workmates.
Now, Abe finds himself — along with 300 newly emancipated Mudokons — without food, water or a place to call home. Stranded alone in the desert, they find solace in a strange new brew — a delicious drink that has insidious ramifications for their newfound freedom.
Oddworld: Soulstorm will continue to chew up the themes of environmentalism, capitalism, consumerism and addiction that critics and fans found so engaging in the "AAA Indie" release of Oddworld Inhabitants’s last pensive platformer, New ’n’ Tasty.
Oddworld: Soulstorm will launch on PC & consoles in 2020.
