DOOM Is Getting Some Classic & New Multiplayer Modes

DOOM

The six multiplayer modes for DOOM have been revealed and it includes two classic modes that DOOM fans will remember and four others to flesh it out

We just had a good look at the multiplayer maps that were coming to DOOM and now it looks like we have a look at the modes of gameplay we will have when entering into said maps. That didn't take too long but it is not surprising given that the beta goes live here in about a week and Bethesda needs to get us all more jazzed. As if what id Software has put together already for DOOM hasn't been enough it looks like we have at least four more multiplayer modes that deviates from the basics we would have all expected. Even if they are just the same modes with different rules…

Below you can spy a new trailer that shows a very small amount of footage for the multiplayer modes that are coming. Most of which are the new modes I was speaking of. Like the Soul Harvest mode that requires you to collect the souls of your fallen enemies to "confirm the kill" and an extremely violent version of Freeze Tag. In that mode all you do is freeze your enemies and then try to kill them through many other various means or just to have them all frozen as the last unfrozen team wins. The other two "new" modes are really just a renamed King of the Hill and Control mode with the DOOM flair to it.

What would be the DOOM flair? Well that would be that almost all of these modes also have demons roaming around in the mix and all kinds of other power-ups that can help your team win or lose depending. None of the specifics on what they can do have been fully fleshed out but it does sound like they can give a huge edge for the team or player who manages to use it all to their advantage. Pretty much in your basic multiplayer mode way. We really need to start thinking of some truly new modes now don't we?

DOOM — Multiplayer Modes

  • Soul Harvest — Players need to collect the souls of their fallen foes to rank up.
  • Freeze Tag — Instead of killing your foes, opponents are instead frozen in place – immobilized in a block of ice. Then you kill them.
  • Warpath — A King of the Hill mode where a single capture point moves around the map along a set pathway.
  • Domination — Three static capture points that are spread out across a map. Players spawn on different sides of the map, and can control the capture points by clearing out any enemies and standing within the designated zone.
  • Team Deathmatch — Pits two teams against each other in a straight-up kill-fest.
  • Clan Arena — The last team standing wins. All pick-ups are removed from the map, and players won’t be able to restore their health or armor.

DOOM is still slated for a May 13th release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A beta for all of these multiplayer modes is still slated for March 31st through to April 3rd for those who happen to have the access granted from Wolfenstein.
