The Game Awards
The time and place for The Game Awards has been revealed as well as how many people can watch The Game Awards for free
If you enjoyed or watched The Game Awards last year then you'll be happy to know that The Game Awards is taking another stab at making video game awards shows a thing this year. We all knew it was going to be back in some form and now we have the official word from Geoff Keighley, producer, that The Game Awards will be back on December 3rd and available for all who have access to the internet and care about what an advisory board thinks about your favorite video games. If that doesn't tickle your fancy then let it be known that watching The Game Awards will also get you discounts on your video games too.
Now we have your attention right? While The Game Awards is being presented by go90 primarily it will be available via a number of other streaming services as well as directly via the PSN and Xbox Live services. According to the press release for The Game Awards watching via these services will unlock offers to let gamers buy certain titles at a discount during The Game Awards. Nothing like a "freebie" of sorts to entice people to watch something that has generally been a terrible idea but The Game Awards has to try somehow.
The Game Awards 2015
It is no big secret that I personally think award shows are a pointless, old fashions, suck job for most of the people involved even though I'll say at least The Game Awards tried not to last year. These kinds of events really do nothing more than to let egos inflame because someone who doesn't matter thinks their product is the best. If you watched The Game Awards last year then you can see that a lot of those winning are way too humble to think they did it all on their own and that they need a flashy statue to show it. Seems odd given the state of gamers but the developer just really are not; unless that is what the individual is looking for.
I harsh on it but I'll still be watching The Game Awards when it airs. If anything it is worth watching all the self-inflated egos not noticing when someone calls them on it or when you get gems like Trey Parker's thank you speech. In this case The Game Awards isn't all bad. I just don't think that most developers really care outside of being told how awesome their games are by the basic video game fans. Awards don't retroactively sell titles and developers who have won before don't always succeed on their next project.
What are your thoughts on The Game Awards though? Do you like the idea and want to see this be the awards show for video games? Do you even think the industry needs something like this to compete with other industries? Will you be watching The Game Awards for anything more than the aforementioned discounts? Let us know and discuss away in the comments below. If there is anything more to bring up for The Game Awards before it airs we will have it here for you so be sure to keep checking back in just in case. Egos do need some stroking sometimes…
