By now most of you have run into The Sadist in The Evil Within. That would be the chainsaw wielding maniac that even the Haunted are afraid of. Or, you know, the first chainsaw wielding maniac that you are forced to encounter at the beginning of The Evil Within. If you haven't run into him at all then you just haven't played The Evil Within yet or Bethesda and Tango Gameworks left some kind of huge bug in the game that allowed you to completely bypass this enemy. We'll assume the prior for now.
If anything at least you've seen The Sadist in any of the passing videos or trailers for The Evil Within. Just in case you were wondering the thought process behind creating a character like this we have yet another interview to milk out The Evil Within. Below you will see Mr. Sessler talking to Shinji Mikami and one of the concept artists for The Evil Within on how they came up with the idea for The Sadist. Have a look…
The Evil Within — The Creatures Within: The Sadist
So no big surprise there that the character is based on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Pretty much like any enemy that uses a chainsaw in a game or film as that film kind of pioneered the tool's use. Why should The Evil Within be any different right? I guess the one cool thing though is that The Sadist doesn't play well with others like all the other chainsaw wielding maniacs in Mr. Mikami's previous titles. This guy will cut up anything in his way to get at you and that leads to him being restrained somehow by all of the other crazies in the game.
Can you imagine being around someone so maniacal that crazy zombie-like people say "Damn that dude is CRAZY."? I guess we see why in The Evil Within why the crazy cheese stands and carves up alone…
