Sim City's Downfall

The outcry and the refund controversy have gotten so widespread that Amazon has removed Sim City from their online store. At the time of writing the game has 1,072 one star reviews on Amazon. Likewise the game has a user score of 1.6 on Metacritic. It seems that gamers have finally had enough of EA’s always-online DRM and have started a petition on change.org to demand EA to have it removed from Sim City and all future EA games.

I don’t blame gamers protesting always-online DRM. We all know EA and that they never keep their online servers up for their games. In a few short years the game that you paid $60 is going to become a brick when the game’s servers are shut down. What makes matters worse is that even if a game has a single player mode you still won’t be able to play because of an always-online DRM. It a safe bet that this is done so that you are forced to buy their new version of the game when it releases. EA can try to disguise it anyway they want, truth is this extortion and a way to make it pay to play every time a new release comes out. You can click the link below to check out the petition.
