With Call Of Duty: Black Ops the number one selling game in the US and Europe for the past three months, it's no surprise that Activision is going all in with this one. It's a safe bet that another CoD will sell just as well if not better than its predecessors.
"This year's Call Of Duty initiatives will result in the best Call Of Duty experiences we have created to date," Kotick said. In addition to paid features integrated into the platform, "You will see a lot of new services and capabilities that will be provided free of charge to all of our customers," he said.
Judging from the above quote I feel we are going to see a new micro-transaction model in the near future. Why offer free of charge services unless you plan to monetize other specific features. How this will work with Call Of Duty is still a mystery but I'm sure it won't be long till we hear more about it.
One of the new services also brought up was the new online service titled Project Beachhead, which has been in development for two years now. In fact Project Beachhead is such a large project, Activision Blizzard created a completely separate group called Beachhead just to work on the project. Beachhead is supposed to bring a large amount of exclusive content and a lot of new services specific to the Call Of Duty franchise. It's also supposed to bring the online experience and console gaming together, but 'how' has not been fully disclosed yet. Cross platform gaming anyone? Social network integration?
Activision will be making a formal announcement in the coming weeks, but I am sure we will get more than an earful at the upcoming Electronics Expo in June this year.
