I recently received an awesome piece of equipment from the company PDP gaming. Many out there know them as the creators of Afterglow controllers. I got a chance to test one of their newer products, the Collector's Edition Light up Tron Wii remote.
First of all, everything about it looks fantastic. The sleek black blue and white remote came with an easy open magnetic black collectors box, complete with rainbow holographic certificate of authenticity on the inside lid. I won't lie. I had to force myself to unleash the awesome, but when I did I wasn't disappointed. The wrist strap itself had the sky blue Tron lines woven into the rest of the black band. Between the beautiful black finish and the no slip grip the remote was both easily and comfortably held.
Once attached to the Wii the controller lit up like a Tron Data Disk glowing that same amazing bright blue Tron fans have come to love. The word Tron also lights up on the top right hand corner of the remote. A button on the inside of the battery compartment allows for simple on and off of the lights like they have on their other Afterglow products.
A few of the symbols light up just as bright as the rest of it. The 'A' button as well as '1' and '2' have also gotten a bit of a Tron like makeover. This is both fantastic to see and a bit disappointing as many of the buttons are, literally, left in the dark. Due to the entire thing being black other than the iconic Tron lights anything that isn't lit up on the controller becomes somewhat difficult to see. Sadly that includes the D-pad, which has the same gloss as the rest of the controller.
It handles just as well as any other Wii remote on the market and you're probably still going to want to get yourself a 'motion plus' to get the best performance out of it. Visually it's just as good, if not better, as many of their other afterglow products. All in all it is a fantastic collector's item worthy of anyone's Tron collection. The only thing I honestly hope for the product is that it also comes in orange.
The Tron controller was supplied by PDP Gaming for review purposes.
