Cataclysm Beta Brings Streaming Content

What does all this mean? Can't I just login the same way I have been since the start? No. Actually players that have any client previous to beta build, that would be everyone, you have to uninstall the previous beta client and completely download the latest version, 15 Gigs. Now some have met this news with opposition, but in retrospect players have to understand that they have signed up for a BETA TEST. That means that you will suffer lag times, constant patching, and numerous server crashes/errors, all for a chance to get a taste of the newest content before anyone else. Sounds like a fair trade off to me.

For a guy like me that currently has the client downloaded and installed on two separate computers, I actually like the new system. From the looks of it, this doesn't look like it will replace the patching/maintenance on Tuesdays that we have all come to know and love (go outside!).

For those players that want to get in the action faster and can't stand to wait for the loading bar at the bottom to become full, we are given a street light answer for when your game is ready to play. Green means GO!

  • SETUP (RED): Core game content is being prepared. You cannot enter the game at this time.
  • AVAILABLE (YELLOW): Major game content is not completely applied. You can play, but your game experience will not be ideal.
  • PLAYABLE (GREEN): Final game content is almost complete. You may experience a few game issues with playing at this stage.

So for all you beta testers out there, head over to the forums and check out the Q&A with our favorite floating skull Zaryhm, uninstall your current client (instructions), and get downloading. Azeroth awaits!
