During his time in the body of Donald Blake, Thor learned honor and humility and became a heroic defender of Earth. He eventually became a stalwart member of Earth’s mightiest heroes, the Avengers. He was one of the original five and his role grew to the point that he, Captain America, and Iron Man became the central figures of the team. Thor’s crescendo moment came during Ragnarok when his brother and mortal enemy Loki set in motion the final destiny of the gods. The battle for Asgard grew to mammoth proportions which led to the destruction of the Asgardian realm. Thor sought out the gods of the gods known as “Those Who Sit Above in Shadow” who fed on the cyclical destruction of Ragnarok. Thor defeated them in battle and succumbed to what many believed was death. It turned out that he had merely entered a sleeping state. In this stasis he was visited by the essence of his mortal form, Donald Blake who reveals that the Asgardians are not dead but in hiding on Earth. He convinces Thor to rise and return to Earth. Thor began rebuilding the pantheon in Oklahoma and choosing to release the benevolent Asgardians from their human shells. His brother Loki however, tricked Thor into releasing him and a slew of other malevolent individuals. During the Civil War, Thor was locked away in his stasis sleep and thus he did not participate. However, Tony Stark along with several others used a sample of Thor’s DNA to create a clone. This proved to be disastrous as the clone killed Bill Foster, a hero named Black Goliath and supporter of Captain America’s resistance movement.
Like all Asgardians, Thor possesses physical limits beyond those of human capabilities. He is the strongest of all the Norse Gods which puts him on par with characters like the Hulk, Colossus, and Hercules. He is also capable of entering a mental state during battle known as the “Warrior’s Madness”. This is similar to Wolverine and his berserker rages. During this state, Thor’s strength will increase allowing him to perform feats of unimaginable power. Along with his strength, Thor has a godly level of stamina and durability. He also has an extremely long lifespan using the Golden Apples of Idunn as a means of restoring his vitality. However, as with the other Asgardians, he is not immortal. Thor is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant but even more deadly in armed combat, particularly the sword and war hammer. His weapon of choice is his hammer Mjolnir. Through it he is capable of flying, opening dimensional rifts and can project the God Blast and Anti-Force. Most commonly, Thor channels his abilities to control storms and weather through Mjolnir.
Thor made his first playable appearance in a video game in Marvel Ultimate Alliance. He was a powerful dual role character working effectively as both a tank and a ranged character. Thor could wield Mjolnir as a melee weapon or toss is at enemies across the screen. His weather manipulation abilities were fully present as he was capable of channeling a lighting attack through his hammer which chained to attack several enemies at once, as well as being able to call down a massive tornado. His costume selection was also intriguing. With his Ultimate Marvel Universe look being his default, Thor also had his standard Earth-616 costume and his Odinson armor. The final choice was interesting to say the least as Activision included Beta Ray Bill as an alternate costume for Thor. Beta Ray Bill is an alien belonging to a race known as the Korbonites. He proved himself worthy of lifting the hammer of Mjolnir. Though Odin returns the hammer to Thor, he bestows upon Beta Ray Bill the Stormbreaker, a hammer possessing the same properties as that of Thor’s.
