Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - Ultimate Character Reveal (Wolverine)

The experimental procedure saw adamantium, a near-indestructible metal, bonded to his skeleton which also included six bone claws. Due to his healing factor, Logan survived the process but his memories are altered and much of his humanity is lost. Proving too difficult to control, Wolverine breaks out of the facility killing nearly everyone in his escape. He would spend some time wandering the Canadian wilderness until he is discovered by James and Heather Hudson. The couple was instrumental in his recovery following the experiment and helped reintroduce him to Canadian Intelligence, this time under Department H. During his missions, Logan was reunited on several occasions with former allies Nick Fury, Carol Danvers, Natasha Romanova, and Ben Grimm. With the Fantastic Four appearing as the world’s first superhero team several years later, James Hudson worked as the director to restructure Department H with the purpose of finding and developing Canadian superheroes. Originally designed with one team in mind, the first group became known as The Flight. Hudson eventually felt the team needed more training so he developed a tier system that started with Gamma Flight, Beta Flight, and finally the premiere team Alpha Flight.

Logan was Hudson’s first recruit where he donned the alias Wolverine and his signature yellow and blue suit. Logan would fight for the team as well as continue his work with Canadian Intelligence, but over time he became disillusioned and left. However, it was not long before he was sought out by Charles Xavier. Xavier was the founder of the mutant superhero team known as the X-men and when his first team had been captured on the island of Krakoa. Logan, under the guise of Wolverine once more, joined a second team comprised of mutants from across the globe and they were successful in freeing the original X-men. Intrigued by Xavier’s offer to help sort out his memories, Logan cut all ties to the Canadian government and became a part of the X-men. Wolverine would become a part of nearly every X-men team to date. Currently he assists the main team and is leader of the X-men’s black ops squad X-Force. Also following Avengers Disassembled, Wolverine was invited by Captain America and Iron Man to be a part of the New Avengers.

As a mutant, Wolverine’s primarily ability is his healing factor which allows him to recover from virtually any wound short of decapitation. This regeneration also processes the effects of alcohol, anesthetics and toxins extremely quickly and retards his aging to the point of looking like a man in his prime despite being over a hundred years old. Also, as a part of his mutation, Wolverine has three retractable 12-inch bone claws housed in each of his forearms. His healing factor was also one of the reasons he was chosen for the Weapon X program where adamantium was bonded to every one of his bones making his skeleton nearly indestructible. The bonding process also extended to his claws giving him 6 razor sharp blades capable of cutting through virtually anything.

If his mutation and the adamantium weren’t enough, Wolverine is arguably the greatest hand-to-hand combatant with at least some familiarity in every martial arts style in the world. His time spent as a soldier and a spy helped in training him to use a variety of different weapons and explosives. He’s also become a skilled pilot and is well versed in espionage and covert operations. Due to his time spent travelling the world, Wolverine is also fluent in nearly a dozen different languages.

Wolverine has been featured in both X-men Legends games as well as the first Ultimate Alliance. As expected, he was most effective when used as a brawler. His healing factor when fully leveled up combined with high striking damage makes Wolverine a nearly unstoppable killing machine. Just about all of his melee special attacks did significant damage, particularly Eviscerate which was deadly strong and capable of dealing massive damage even to boss characters. The only real fault with Wolverine was that he had no real ranged attacks save for Lethal Lunge where he’d dive across the screen and takedown an enemy before clawing them apart. Wolverine’s berserker rage was also a deadly asset in the form of a boost ability that raised both his speed and damage.

Regardless of the game though, Wolverine’s costumes have typically been the same. Usually there his Ultimate Universe attire, his brown and orange outfit, and either the classic or modern redesign to his yellow and blue costume. The X-men Origins Wolverine game featured the new X-Force costume as an unlockable so who’s to say we won’t see it again? Beyond that I know I’d like to see Wolverine’s outfit from his time spent as Apocalypse’s horseman Death make an appearance. Another interesting choice would be his Marvel Zombies double or the old man Day of the Future Past look.
