Tartarus
A new horror title, The Tartarus Key, is announced with us needing to escape the various locations in The Tartarus Key
Some of out there are looking for the next best visuals when it comes to our horror games, and then there are some that pine for the good old days that The Tartarus Key will be aiming to take us back to. That would be the latest title announced from Vertical Reach recently that will be hitting the PC next year but still give us that feeling of going back to some of the retro style of things some grew up with. My guess is that along with Armor Games Studios, that will be the goal they have and seem to be doing a fairly decent job with based on what little we now have for The Tartarus Key. Little being a trailer to showcase some of the interesting and classic styles from yore to try to enjoy.
You can see the announcement below for The Tartarus Key and should easily see the inspirations from the past that will be informing it. At least in terms of style and visuals. As for the story and gameplay, it looks like we will be hopping into the role of Alex Young in the game, who happens to find themselves and others trapped in a mansion of sorts with all kinds of killer traps around. We will have to help them all figure out how to overcome these traps and then make it out to safety too. All while trying to figure out who or what might be behind all of the horrors The Tartarus Key will be throwing at us. It may not be the scariest thing we see, but the psychological aspect of it all could be the killer aspect here. We will find out in 2022, though.
The Tartarus Key — Announcement
Delve deep into the darkness of a mysterious mansion and puzzle out a way to escape the horror that lies within. As Alex Young, you awaken to find yourself trapped in a dark room — and your only guide: a cynical voice on the other end of a portable radio. As you move from room to room, solving puzzles and rescuing others like yourself, team up with everyone from a self-important conspiracy theorist to a detective with secrets of her own. It quickly becomes apparent that there is something truly rotten lurking at the heart of this place. But who — or what — lurks in the shadows of this mansion, monitoring your every move?
Inspired by the look and feel of classic horror games, The Tartarus Key serves up a mystery filled with twists and turns, and more than a few deadly surprises. Rely on brains over brawn to help Alex survive, but beware — not everyone might make it out alive.
Features:
- Escape a deadly mansion filled with dangerous traps, and rescue Alex’s fellow captives… or fail, and leave them to a grisly fate
- Uncover three different endings, and dig to the heart of the mansion and the strange secrets it and your captors hold
- Solve puzzles and challenges reminiscent of escape-the-room games in a variety of unsettling and bizarre scenarios
- A tense, atmospheric adventure that relies on puzzles and plot instead of combat or chase sequences
Were you expecting to see a game like The Tartarus Key make its way out there in these modern times or is this a bit of a surprise for you too? Do you see the inspirations from the past here or did you miss the original Silent Hill and Resident Evil era of gaming? How vastly different do you think the endings for the story will be or will it just be different characters escaping and nothing more? Give us all of that feedback down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all. When there is anything further to share for The Tartarus Key, we will have it all here. Just be sure to check back in often so you do not miss out on a single thing here.
