"I spoke to a developer who is working on it right now," he said to the news outlet. "I know this developer is already working on it, so that means they have a prototype. That would sound like a fall release to me." He went on to say, "I've been pounding on Sony for a long time to make the Playstation Portable relevant and not to let Apple stroll away with the portable game market," he said. "Look at what Apple is doing now. Why are so many investors investing in Apple game development? Trying to pitch a PSP game to investors right now is brutal."
Now aside from the fact that he mentions, for some reason, that he has been pounding on Sony, most concerns fall with gamers existing library of games and how this new, primarily, digital distribution based system would work. The biggest, and most obvious path to take would be to use the Playstation Store via the PS3 or through your PC. Hopefully, it would also allow you to replace your existing games with digital versions that you would store on a memory stick. Is it worth it though? It's been mentioned in a previous article by Ben Brody here on the site that the outlook for the PSP is lackluster at best, and that the focus should be on developing quality content as opposed to force feeding new versions of the hardware. I myself had a PSP for over a year before I came to the conclusion that the four games that I owned for it were no longer grabbing my attention, thus I'd be inclined to agree. What is going to be the key to securing the PSP as a concrete and continued choice for handheld gaming? More quirky titles like Loco Roco, Patapon, and the recently releaded Prinny: Can I Really Be a Hero? or translations of existing properties like Crisis Core, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, Socom: US Navy Seals Fire Team Bravo, and forthcoming Resistance: Retribution? When I had my PSP I felt like I did with the last days of my Sega Game Gear. I was looking for something to do with the system.
