Japanese idol simulator, Idolm@ster SP, for the Sony PSP has seen a release day sell out throughout various shops in Japan. Within hours Japanese gaming stores, Gamers and Mesee Sanoo starting posting signs claiming the game was "Sold Out". By the morning of February 20th, Amazon Japan was completely sold out of all 3 versions as well.
For those who are unfamiliar with this title, Idolm@ster started as a sim style game where you are an Idol manager, and you pick a girl to be the next Idol in Japan and groom her to success. Originally released to Japanese arcades by Namco Bandai, Idolm@ster continued its success after being ported to the Xbox 360. From there, it became reached #1 on Japan's XBox Live DLC charts.
The new Idolm@ster SP versions are broken down into three groups of girls to choose to become idols. "Missing Moon" features Idols Chihaya, Azusa, and Ritsuko, while "Wandering Star" features Yukiho, Iori, and the twins Ami&Mami, and finally "Perfect Sun" features Makoto, Yayoi and Haruka.
Each version of the game comes with a download code for the Japanese PSN store for a schoolgirl style outfit. Even after only being out one day, the Japanese PSN store is already showcasing various DLC for the games. You can purchase new outfits, songs for each girl and more.
Idolm@ster is proving once again it is a powerhouse in the Japanese gaming industry. It will be interesting to see if this will be enough to possibly see it brought to the West in the future, but supporters shouldn't hold their breath on that.
