We finally have a look at the latest that Fatshark has been working on in the mix of things, as we now have the announcement for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Before you roll your eyes at there being yet another title in the franchise, take some time to take in just what we will be getting here and how it will be adding into the greater universe and pleasure for those that have been enjoying it. the 40K universe is big and Darktide is aiming to take us down the path of a small portion of it all. All in a nice little co-op experience on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC next year. I will assume the next-gen systems too, but this is what we have announced thus far.
There is also a nice pre-rendered trailer to go along with the announcement for Darktide that tried to give us a feel for what is going on in the game. If I had to make some speculations, we will be on a squad of four trying to survive one of the many onslaughts in the universe with a mix of melee combat and firearms. I would also like to assume it is going to all be in an FPS format, but things could be shaken up here for Darktide instead of following what it looks like we might be getting. Have a look now and see what we have here and the darkness that is going to be held in the firefights.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide — Announcement
Introducing Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
We’re sticking with what we know. A co-op game first and foremost, with the same tight melee combat that not only are we proud of but also that we’re known for. However, we’ll be giving ranged combat more complexity of its own to really bring it up to par with the hands on stuff. Our hope is that we can really deliver on some truly hybrid combat that’s both accessible yet boasts a high skill ceiling, offering the same opportunity for mastery regardless of whether you’ve got a lasgun or a chainsword in your hands.
When it comes to the co-op, expect a similar four-player experience that encourages you to work with your friends, or maybe even with new friends you just haven’t met yet.
Much like Vermintide, we want Darktide to be full of detail and respectful of the rich and spectacular world(s) that Games Workshop has crafted over the decades. We’re madly in love with all things Warhammer here at Fatshark (if you didn’t already figure that out!). It will be our mission objective to craft a truly unique take on the Warhammer 40,000 universe and we do believe that we have the experience to bring you a ‘boots on the ground’ 40k adventure that’s unrivalled.
There will be plenty of opportunities to get hands on with Darktide before release so be sure to sign up to our newsletter and add the game to your Wishlist for all the news, reveals and testing opportunities to come.
With all that said, and with heaps more details to come as we move through development, all that’s left is to welcome you to Atoma Prime, convict. The Emperor protects.
Were you expecting to hear about a game like Darktide here or did you think they would go down a different path in the 40K universe? Do you think it will be an FPS title or could we see the co-op go a different way in the middle of it all? Will you be going in with a squad already or teaming up with new players to take everything down? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all. If there is more for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, we will share it all here. Be sure to keep checking in for all of that and much more.
