Do Not Expect Vampyr To Bleed Your Wallet With DLC

In a recent interview for Vampyr, it was revealed that the team does not want to do any DLC for Vampyr but plan for a sequel based on sales

In a recent interview for DontNod's upcoming Vampyr, a few interesting things for the game were revealed but sadly still no solid release date for the PS4, Xbox One, or PC. It is still set for "early 2018" and I am going to venture a guess around E3 or so. Nonetheless, there were some interesting facts about Vampyr that did come to light outside of when Focus Home Interactive will deem it a full success or not. That currently sits on if the game can sell about a million copies or not. No, this new little tidbit revolves around any planned DLC or prospects of DLC that the development team could have in store for us. Spoiler alert, there will be none.

We do live in a time where almost every game out there has some kind of future game content planned or worked out, but it looks like that will not be the case for Vampyr. Even with the low budget used where half a success will mean the game did not lose anything, the team is very adamant about not bringing any DLC to the game. They believe it will be fleshed out enough to not require it and if the game is truly successful, it will all be in a possible Vampyr 2. They already have ideas on how to keep the franchise branching and growing it seems and anything outside the purview of the upcoming game would be held until a sequel. I guess that is good for our wallets, but hopefully not our sanity if there are any unanswered events in the game that would require DLC but the game only "breaks even."

“Vampyr will be considered a success when around 1m copies are sold”

How long are you going to support the title?

This is a purely solo experience; we did not plan DLC. We would prefer, if the reception of the game justifies it, to think about a sequel. We and DontNod already have some ideas, as there’s so many incredible things to offer in such a universe.

I for one am on board for the no DLC option DontNod is going here for Vampyr. It always feels like the developers just could not get in most of the content in DLC packs and just opted to make a few more bucks to bring it all to us. Rare is the case where something is scrapped and or truly innovative that could not make it into the game in the first place. I know I will be thankful for all of this when Vampyr finally does launch and I am not sitting around for another year to get the little extras that I need to pay for. This sucks even when a game is spectacular and the DLC adds on a lot of extra play time and should have just been part of the core game the whole time.

Vampyr — E3 Gameplay

What do you think about Vampyr not having any DLC after launch? Do you think this will hinder the team from growing the franchise a bit if the game sales are not what they need or will this mean that we will get something that feels like a full game at launch? Do you think that this was all part of the delay that recently occurred so the team could get everything in one place and not need to worry about DLC? Let us all know down in the comments and then discuss. For more Vampyr, be sure to stick here on the site. We will keep it all coming to you and you will not want to miss out on a single update.
