Before you read any further do know that there will be a few spoilers here for Resident Evil 7, so if you have not played through to its completion and care about seeing it all fresh then you may want to back out now. If you want to throw caution to the wind and are looking to see what will be coming with the free DLC that Capcom has promised, then read right along. You can be the better judge on what you want to know or not know about Resident Evil 7. We'll give you a brief moment to think about your life choices and carry on or not. You've been warned.
If you've beaten Resident Evil 7 or spoiled the ending for yourself, then you may have seen what you thought to be a familiar character show up in the way of "Redfield." He shows up to save the day at the end of the game and flies us all off into the sunset in an Umbrella marked helicopter. Rumors started that this was indeed Chris Redfield of the franchise fame but he looked a bit different. Now it has been confirmed that this was indeed the character and we'll get to see some of his story in Resident Evil 7 with the FREE story DLC that will be coming this spring in way of "Not A Hero."
Details are still sparse on this but Capcom has sent out the word and given us a few images to look at as we wait. Any fan of Resident Evil will note the weirdness of the character and the link to Umbrella here in a friendly way but after the break here, I'll throw down a few thoughts on what this DLC could house for us for the character and overall story that will be coming to Resident Evil 7. For now just know it will be coming the next few weeks to months or so and will feature Chris in the story somehow.

Many would question the motivations of the character given the long history and how he showed up in Resident Evil 7. Given the timeline that has been presented and story so far, I'm going to have to say that this isn't the Chris that we know. Unless this is Capcom doing some weird prequel thing for some reason, I have a feeling that this is the same body but not the same mind. At least same body as the technology has advanced and progressed. Given that the Bakers were fairly normal people before the events before Resident Evil 7 I have a feeling that this is a version of the character under the thumb and control doing what he does best; reclaim lost BOWs.
It would fit with what is going on in the world of Resident Evil after all of the events we experienced in the core game. Possibly Umbrella has gained some form of control over the mold and thus better control on its operatives. To poke a whole though, they are a company that has been "outed" for doing horrible things and most likely wouldn't be able to operate as openly as before so it is possible that this is all to build up to the entirety of Resident Evil 7 being a prequel of sorts and this is a less seasoned version of the character. Doubtful though. If anything, maybe this is a Chris Jr. and now we have two Umbrellas warring over the same items. We'll find out this Spring I guess.
What do you think about Chris Redfield being in the next Resident Evil 7 DLC here? DO you think that he is mind controlled like the other characters in the core game or could there be another reason he is here to do Umbrella's bidding? Could this be a different point in the timeline that we missed, like a prequel or a child of his here? Let us know your thoughts and speculation down in the comments. As we learn more for Resident Evil 7's Not A Hero DLC, we will bring it to you here. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to get it as the questions burn even more now. Itchy…scratchy…
