Scalebound Has Been Officially Cancelled By Microsoft Studios

Scalebound

After being a staple title at conventions it looks like Scalebound has been given the axe as Microsoft has cancelled Scalebound officially now

I hope you weren't too invested in the Scalebound hype that had been pushed out there since its first announcement back in 2014 as it looks like the game is now dead and cancelled. It is official from Microsoft Studios that they have decided to end production on the game to focus on other titles that are still slated for 2017. This is also after opting to delay Scalebound back in 2016 to give Platinum Games more time to bring us the game that was envisioned and also shown off at the many gaming conventions since it was announced. Now it is just dead in the water and our dreams of flying around on these dragons in the game are crushed as well.

It seems a bit odd to me that this would be the final call after so many years of work and having Scalebound most likely at a place where it could move to a production and gold status. Of course that is all the perception of things based on the fact that it was supposed to launch near the end of last year before its "polish" delay that we were given. It looks like there was a lot more than just polish needed as I'm sure the game had to be in just the worst place to be placed on the chopping block so close to the second release window we were all given. It looks like those E3 and Gamescom videos had to be "doctored" up a bit then…just saying…

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State Of Decay 2, Sea Of Thieves, and other great experiences.”

Something that interesting to note and maybe give you all some faith that we may see Scalebound in some form in the future is the fact that Microsoft wouldn't comment on just who owns the rights to the IP. It could be them or it could be Platinum Games. Either way, when questioned all they could respond with was "We do not comment on the details of our business agreements with partners." This could mean that they own it and don't want to deal with the IP anymore or it could mean that Scalebound is owned by Platinum and could be picked up by other publishers. Hells, it may have already and this is why we are just now getting the cancellation notice. Either way, I'd cash in those pre-orders for store credit if I were you.

Has the cancellation of Scalebound made you more distraught than you could have imagined? Do you too wonder where the game was in development where it was given an extra few months for "polish" only to be cancelled at the beginning of the release year? Do you think this could all just be that the game is no longer going to be a Microsoft exclusive and the IP is owned by Platinum who wanted to make the game for all? Let us know your thoughts on all of this down in the comments and then discuss. If there is any further news on Scalebound, you can bet that we will have it here. Be sure to stick around here as we'll do our best to get it out to you as soon as we can.
