We've waited patiently for anything new for Minecraft: Story Mode since its first announcement and now we have a bit more to work with. It would make sense that Telltale would wait until Minecon to release all of this as it is the Minecraft convention and all. I never in this life cycle thought I would say that we needed or had a want for a Minecraft convention but we do and this is where Minecraft: Story Mode was first shown off to the world. That and the internet but that should be a given. What also should be a given is that we have no solid release dates for Minecraft: Story Mode but we do have all the platforms we can expect it on. Those being the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Android.
I know it is really what you are here for so have a look at the first trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode now. You'll hear a few familiar voices in the mix and see a few things you may have experienced in the game proper already but we'll save that for the brave and willing who want to read on after the trailer you are about to see. I now give you Minecraft: Story Mode.
Minecraft: Story Mode — Minecon 2015 Trailer
That was short, sweet, and pretty much what we've all come to expect from Telltale when it comes to teasing their titles. Minecraft: Story Mode shouldn't be much different, especially since it falls back to the tried and true single protagonist character that I thought we were moving away from with the other titles the developer has been working on. That makes me a bit sad but what are we going to do? Riot? Most likely not. We'll just sit back and enjoy it while the Minecraft fanatics will most likely lose their minds over Minecraft: Story Mode and all of the episodes that will take over a year to finally release to the world. Another thing I hoped we would move away from but it doesn't look like we are going to at all.
"We've worked closely with the amazing team at Mojang to ensure this story is a natural fit for the Minecraft world fans already know and love," said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games. "As Jesse, players will steer their own path through a tale of adventure and survival; all brought to life by an all-star cast. Through Telltale's choice-based gameplay and a story spanning from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond, we can't wait for fans to experience this new take on the beloved world of Minecraft."
"The interactive storytellers at Telltale are giving players the chance to explore their own unique interpretation of the Minecraft universe," said Owen Hill, Chief Word Officer at Mojang. "They've crafted a story that follows the logic of Minecraft, but still manages to feel original. It's actually pretty funny too. And the pig is adorable. We're super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year."
To better sell Minecraft: Story Mode to us all though we are getting a nice, big cast of names to help bring the characters to life. Not all are present in the above trailer, and I've only been able to truly hear Patton Oswald's voice to be honest, but they are all slated to lend their voices to Minecraft: Story Mode over the season. Those names are: Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens. Wait, Paul Reubens is on board? I guess I am now locked in for Minecraft: Story Mode from start to finish now; even though I have only ever played about an hour's worth of Minecraft on my own. I guess I should start changing that stat in preparation.
I know what I think about Minecraft: Story Mode but what do you think? Is it what you Minecraft have been hoping for from Mojang and Telltale? Do you really want a story mode created for the franchise? Let us know down in the comments as always to keep the conversations rolling. Also keep checking in as we will keep updating you on everything Minecraft: Story Mode as new tidbits get released and no longer in the rumor area of the internet.
