Bethesda's first game conference was a huge success. I was enthralled from start to finish. All the games Bethesda showed off looked amazing and I can't wait to play them. Though for myself and many fans around the world the game we most looked forward to was Fallout 4. We can all collectively agree that we weren't disappointed.
Something no one expected from Bethesda was a Fallout game being launched right after the conference. Yes, you heard me right. A Fallout game was launching right after the conference. Fallout: Shelters looks to be a very fun game where you create a vault and become the Overseer. My girlfriend was able to download the game on her iPad but it hasn't showed up in the Google app store for me at the time of writing this, but like so many other great works Todd explained that they drew a lot of inspiration from the games they love to play when they made Fallout: Shelters. Two of the things that stood out most to me were the ability to play with no internet connection and that it was free. The only thing you can spend money on are the loot cards and that is just an optional extra. It's a great move towards caring more about the player than your wallet and I always love that Bethesda thinks of us first.
After that we learned a surprising amount about Fallout 4. The game starts off before the war on a quaint Saturday morning with the threat of nuclear war looming over them. A husband and wife are getting ready to start the day. You can customize both male and female characters though which ever one you leave the mirror as is the one that you play through the rest of the game as. The team developing Fallout 4 have done a lot to not only add new features but overhaul the already existing ones. After that a man knocks on your door, he is a representative of Vault-Tec and he is there to finalize some information about you for your spot in the vault. This is where you choose your special skills.
Soon after, the news plays on the television broadcasting that bombs have hit the US and the family runs to the vault. The bomb hits before you make it inside, Todd then explained that you do somehow make it inside. The demo skips forward and you emerge from the vault as the lone survivor. You make it back to your home from two hundred years ago, with your trusty Mister Handy waiting for you.
This is the first Bethesda game to have a voiced protagonist. I personally am open to the idea. Whether this will turn out to be good or bad it certainly is different and I applaud them for moving forward and not being afraid to try new things. Another new feature is customizable armor slots and customizable power armor. Not only can you customize individual slots of armor there are over fifty base guns and over seven hundred modifications to use.
A top mod for Fallout is the Real Time Settlers mod, and it seems with its next move Bethesda took a cue from the community and you can now build your own town and eventually turn it into a thriving settlement in the wasteland. Possibly more than one town due to comment made by Todd that you could establish caravan routes between your settlements.
With the conference winding down we got a special treat. The Pip-Boy edition of Fallout 4 and a release date. November 10th, 2015. That's right. Less than five months before we get our hands on the game most of us have been waiting seven years for! Not only is the Pip-Boy that comes with that edition a neat looking extra; you can actually wear it and use it with your smartphone as a two screen experience while playing Fallout 4. Don't fret if you don't get the Pip-Boy edition you can still download the app for your phone and have that two screen experience. A chilling thought Todd made on the after BE3 stream was there still a lot they haven't revealed.
Fallout 4 is shaping up to be a truly epic game with a massive world to explore. Until November keep it tuned here for more Fallout 4 news as it happens. Please comment and share to help us grow!
