By this point I know I have been questioning where the Skylanders franchise might and can go. It started the toys-to-life genre of video games and others have tried to follow suit. It looks like Vicarious Visions and Activision are again pushing things forward a little bit with Skylanders SuperChargers. This would be the most recent title just announced which now adds vehicles to the video game world as well as to all of the 300+ Skylanders toys already available. It isn't completely new and original given what LEGO Dimensions is looking to do but at least we know Skylanders SuperChargers will be based off a very well established franchise.
Of course outside of the announcement for Skylanders SuperChargers we have a few details to go over. Yes, there are both physical and digital vehicles in play now to help us all stop Kaos from taking over Skylands. These will range from ground based variables to flying vehicles to a few water based ones. I am pretty sure that these will all be based off the elemental type of Skylander it comes bundles with as it wouldn't make much sense for an Earth elemental to have a rocket to fly around with. Of course that is just the bundle as ALL Skylanders toys can use the new vehicles as they wish or you want to pair with.
Similar to Skylanders SwapForce, Skylanders SuperChargers will gain bonuses based on being paired with their personal vehicle or one of their type to get added extras. Full details on this I am sure will be coming out here in the next weeks as we get into E3. At least that would make sense as Skylanders SuperChargers will be launching on September 20th this year on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and 3DS platforms as they usually do. How they will all link up to other Skylanders branches will also be interesting as I'm not sure how Giants and Trap Team toys used different bases and portals to work.
Just so you can also get a feel for Skylanders SuperChargers, Vicarious Visions and Activision have released a new trailer with the announcement. You can see some of the game in action below but for the most part this is all hype to get you looking at Skylanders SuperChargers before any real gameplay and functionality is shown off. Like I said, that will most likely all be done in the coming weeks as we get ever closer to the mecca of the video games industry in the west.
