How Does Batman: Arkham Knight's Dual Play Really Work?

By now all of us who are excited for Batman: Arkham Knight to launch have seen or heard about the dual play system coming in this iteration of the game. Rocksteady has shown it in trailers and glossed over it a bit in the recent past so we should all know we can swap between Batman, Nightwing, Robin, and Catwoman when we are playing. Until today there has been little known about how it will work in game but we have just known it is an option in Batman: Arkham Knight. How about we define all of that out now so we can all get more excited about "Being The Bat" on our PS4, Xbox One, or PC on June 23rd.

So it should be known that the Dual Play option in Arkham Knight doesn't look to be present at all times. Only during missions where the story has Batman teaming up with another of the listed heroes to take down some villain in some sorts. In the video down below you can see the instance where Nightwing and Batman are moving in to take down The Penguin and his arms smuggling/selling operation. Once both heroes are on the scene the game's AI takes over the other so they are not just siting like a bump on a log getting pummeled. As if we expected anything different in Batman: Arkham Knight here.

The part that is interesting and adds to the overall experience of Arkham Knight is that, as was known, we can swap between at any time but we also keep our combo counter going. Time flows extremely slow as the camera changes from one to the other but the combo and action keep going. I can see combo saving going on when one NPC is safely out of harm when there are nine enemies about to attack Batman. At least that is how I can see myself using this new feature in Batman: Arkham Knight. Don't lie; you will to as it is going to be a life saver when it comes to the Batman challenges.

Another interesting thing is that this also paves the way for more take-downs as the combo gets higher and higher. This is where those dual take-downs we've seen in past Batman: Arkham Knight trailers come in. Just like the general Batman take-downs we have always been able to build to only this time they get a much cooler dual action kind of animation instead. It is all a nifty gimmick that doesn't feel like it is forced but just another great option to further a franchise that is ending. Hopefully we can see Rocksteady using the ideas with future projects that are rumored to be next in line for them.
