Time to date ourselves with the way-way-back machine as the excitement for a new ClayFighter title is coming. It has been announced by Interplay that there is a new ClayFighter Remastered version on the way for next year on the PC. If you don't remember ClayFighter or know what ClayFighter you were most likely no old enough to play video games by 1997. That would be when ClayFighter: 63⅓ graced the Nintendo 64. Damn we're all getting old.
For those who still have yet to Google what ClayFighter was/is, it was a fighting game that kind of poked fun at all of the other serious titles out there like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. All of course in a fun claymation style which is where the ClayFighter title comes in. It even had something akin to the Fatality moves that we all know and love now only they were called, of course, Clayality moves. You should see the theme here.
It is a little unclear on what ClayFighter Remastered will have included as some reports read the press release stating that ClayFighter, ClayFighter 2: Judgment Clay, and ClayFighter: 63⅓ will all be given the treatment and bundled. While I and others read it as Drip Drop Games and Interplay will be taking the best of all three of those titles and cramming them into one big ClayFighter Remastered title. None the less, here is what is listed to be coming in 2016.
- Characters such as Bad Mr. Frosty, Blue Suede Goo, Earthworm Jim, Hoppy, Boogerman, Tiny - and more with over 20 characters total
- Over 20 familiar environments from the series to duke it out in
- Brand new gameplay introducing new mechanics to the series such as double jumping, air dashing, counters, and reversals
- Unique supers and 'Claytality' moves for each character
It may sound silly but that is really what ClayFighter was all about to me. I am a little off put that ClayFighter Remastered is slated to come for PC. Nostalgia is always a factor with these remastered titles and it feels odd not being able to play on a console. Granted, if ClayFighter Remastered does well and given the state of portability I can see it making a leap to all of the other platforms we play on shortly after. I mean it would have to right? Let's hope so.
What say you though? Do you remember ClayFighter? Were you old enough to enjoy it all when it first launched in 1993 on the SNES? Does this title just sound odd to all of you young in's? Let us know down in the comments.
