Some of you may have heard of White Night as it was technically announced back in 2013 during the Game Connection Europe show. Don't feel bad if you haven't heard of the game though as it was only really shown to the press and potential publishers for the title. Yea, White Night kind of had a small announcement back then even though it did win a few small awards but we can treat this new trailer below as the official announcement for the game. A nice, new take on the survival horror genre using a black and white theme coming to the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux operating systems. All kinds of platforms.
White Night is a story that takes place in Boston during the 1930s and claims to be an old-school survival horror title with some adventure mixed in. Based on that it sounds like where the fifth Resident Evil title went but according to OSome Studios they were going for more of the Alone In The Dark feel when it comes to all of the horror in the game. Either one will do but given the art and gameplay style you can still see below it looks to be a lot slower pace than where all of the "survival horror" titles currently are at.
As of right now it looks like White Night will be out on the PSN on March 3rd and then everything else on April 3rd. You can now take a look at the "announcement" trailer for White Night and then think about what you just saw.
White Night — Gameplay Trailer
From what was shown here I will say it does look like White Night will be going for more of the suspense side of horror but I personally don't know how well it will pay off given the visuals. The slight jump scare in the trailer there did nothing for me and I felt a little detached from the character shown to even care. This is of course all based on the minute of scripted gameplay for White Night so who knows? Maybe the story and other aspects of the game will have us all cringing with fear just like P.T. although my reservations are going to be held for this one.
