Guacamelee! has a 'dual world' feature where you have to jump through portals to navigate the levels. These two worlds are called The World of the Living and The World of the Dead. You will come across enemies that are shrouded in shadow that cannot be attacked, as they are in the other world, but simply jumping in a portal will allow you to defeat said enemy. However this can be complicated by large groups with some in each world. You will later receive an upgrade which allows you to traverse the two worlds freely without portals. This will be needed as some walls exist in one and not the other, creating a puzzle on how to move forward at times.
Each of the characters, levels and enemies are based on Mexican folklore. Graham expressed to me how much research went into this to make sure they got it right. Everything from the goat man who gives you your abilities to the bosses to the main antagonist's girlfriend who is a siren rooted in old Mexican folklore.
The game comes out in a few weeks on PSN and you can even use your Vita as a controller and mini map!
As soon as the game is out there will be a review up for you all to see, and I hope the final version is as fun as the demo I got to play this past weekend.
