Now that I have your attention, let's go into a few of the foot notes of what was "leaked" to the world here.
- ALL characters will start out as a Mortal and need to seek/be granted the Embrace into a Vampire Clan.
- CCP is looking to have most of the content of the game to be driven off PvP and social interactions. So quite similar to how the table-top/LARP versions of the game currently play.
- It is not 100% set in stone, but Permanent Character Death is on the table which fits the game world as well as the basic game. If you die as a human, make a new character. If you die as a vampire, possibly make a new character.
- Stemming from the above, they are also looking into using a system of "death" for Vampires that doesn't require a whole new character built. Just a little bit of a time out while your Vamp heals. Fans can read that as Torpor.
- They are also looking into adding a Web Interface that would allow players of the MMO to get their Character's Stats and use it for a non-virtual game. Which as I've always assumed, you can play your character in the MMO and then most likely bring it into one of the Fan Club's man Live Action games to play it in the real world.
- The game will also use the hierarchy system in the table-top version. Meaning that real players will hold the roles that are usually NPC driven. Fans can read that as Prince, Primogen, Harpy, etc.
- There were also mention of some of the powers and how they will be altered to fit the game environment. Some through visual changes on the screen and some that are suppose to force a player to do something. How that will work I do not know.
So permanent death and a player driven world. To things that are drastic changes from a standard MMO but both very fitting in the game world. I do hope that they are taking into account griefing and absent players. I mean if you have a Prince of a city who got there due to support and skill, but they can only log in every so often, players will constantly be without leadership. It just seems like they are tailoring this title specifically to the hardcore fans of the pen and paper version of the game. Just offering another way to continue playing for a huge profit on their end.
Being a fan, I see the benefit, but for those of you out there who will see this as an interesting MMO to try, I think you will be left far in the dust. Even with this all in pre-production, for the last 2 years now, it seems like CCP will have to go back to the drawing board if they want to grab people who will already be ingrained in The Secret World and not already fans of the games White Wolf has published.
