I will give the episode a bit of credit as it does expand on the whole rivalry story between the two characters. We all know that they hate each other because of the destruction of the Shirai Ryu at Sub Zero's hand. The difference here is that the story shows the family life of "The Scorpion" before the attack happened. This includes family dinner at the Hasashi residence and a poorly sung song from his son.
I understand what the goal of the episode was, to humanize Scorpion a bit, but it did not seem to click with me. Maybe because I have grown use to this version of Scorpion harpooning people in the chest and setting them on fire. It was this fact that made it not so heart wrenching to see the attacks. I was thinking more "Ok let's make him the bad ass spirit of vengeance" more than "Man that is a horrible way to go."
Then again, they never did show his family being slaughtered so they might be able to get that feeling in Episode 8, but I have a feeling this will not be the case. Maybe I'll get pleasantly surprised like what happened with the last episode.
