So where does the multiplayer rumor come in? Well you must be dense if you read the above FPS line and didn't think "I wonder how the multiplayer will handle?" For those who thought that let me assure you from the press release that it will be "unlike any other game." You will play as amateur Heroes or Villains based around Batman and Joker all the hopes to take over parts of Gotham. As of now they are promising "insane" costumes and "homebrewed" and "imaginative" gadgets/weapons to use to torment your opposition.
But don't just take my word for it. Take it away Samantha.
"Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before," said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Monolith is creating a game that turns Gotham City upside down and we think fans are going to have a blast with this creative twist on multiplayer heroism and anti-heroism as they play up the classic rivalry between Batman and The Joker." |
So it kind of all sounds like it is the PvP portion of DC Universe just completely focused on the Batman universe. I'm going to be a little cautious on any excitement for this game as of right now. It sounds a bit like Punisher: No Mercy to me. You know that FPS for the Punisher franchise that offered up a similar scenario sans the character customization. That game was playable, but it was definitely nothing extraordinary.
Let's just hope that it will be decent and hold out for more details.
