Here is the short description of the title Crystal Dynamics will be working on.
After a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, a frightened young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach. On her own but not alone she has only one goal, to survive.
O…k… This could be interesting although this scenario has been done to death, but hey at least we'll get to see how Lara became that badass, spiked boobed, acrobatic heroine that all of us teenage boys drooled over. Well except that we are suppose to forget everything we know about Lara for this part of the story to work. Or at least that is what Darrell Gallagher (Head of Crystal Dynamics) says we have to do.
"Forget everything you know about TOMB RAIDER, we are exploring things that have never been done before in this game," said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio, Crystal Dynamics. "This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other."
Ok, so maybe he means forget all of the preconceived notions we've come up with on where she came from. Or maybe it is the origin stuff they talked about in the films? Or is it the definition that she was born to a well off archeologist and took up the family trade? That was the original origin that they touched on in Tomb Raider 2 wasn't it? It's been 13 years since I played that, so I could be wrong.
Anyways, is it just time to let the franchise stay in our happy memories or do you really think you can pull it off Crystal Dynamics? I mean, the rendered image that is going to be on Game Informer (See Below) and website looks nice, but graphics don't make a game. Hope you know what you are doing there.
