E3: TRON Evolution - Welcome to the Grid

One of the most anticipated movies of 2010, TRON: Legacy, is getting it's own video game (of course). Brought to us by Disney Interactive and developed by Propoganda Games (Turok), TRON: Evolution is tied in closely to the movie and it's storyline, even using the same company that provides the film's CG animations to create the awesome trailer below. We're going to get it all, Lightcycles, disc-based combat, parkour, and some great visual effects.

Coming to XBox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 and scheduled for release this Holiday 2010, just in time for TRON: Legacy to start appearing in theaters. TRON: Evolution will take place before the current movie time line to give players some backstory, and serve as a prequel to the 2010 movie. Although the movie and game will be their own stories, the movie will reference some elements from the games storyline, so if your really into the TRON mythology this will be a must have game.

"We expect TRON: Evolution to be a premier action-focused game that both stands on its own and supplements a major event film," said Dan Tudge, vice president and general manager, Propaganda Games. "Because Propaganda Games is based in Vancouver, which was the site of the film's principal photography, we were able to leverage the proximity to continuously collaborate with the filmmakers and ensure authenticity between the two projects."

As seen in the demo at E3 you play a program created by Flynn (Jeff Bridges) as a guard over the computer Grid. Your mission is to seek out Quorra played by Olivia Wilde in the movie, who also was kind enough to lend her voice and likeness to the character in TRON: Evolution. Quorra takes you on a wild chase across the Grid, and basically gives you a visually stunning tour of your new virtual surroundings in this demo.

High-Mobility Combat utilizes free running/parkour which seem to be the must have elements of video games this year, and it is beautifully portrayed in this title.. From flipping and running off walls, to performing martial arts acrobatics, and capoeira style fighting on the ground. We will also see some Disc-combat, and players will have the opportunity to find certain "devices" that players can interact with to upgrade powers and attacks.

This was all fine and dandy but what everyone wants to know about are the Lightcycles. How they move, how they feel. Combat from the Lightcycles consists of you utilizing your disc-combat skills, while riding at insane speeds, and it looks AWESOME! Stuff is blowing up all around you, the world is falling apart, and your riding at break neck speed to get out of there. Take that 1982!

Finally multiplayer/online will be supported. Players will be able to take their character in single player mode and move them in and out of mulitplayer mode seamlessly, so everything that a player has completed in the story will transfer in and out of the multiplayer environment. Players will no longer be separated, and be able to progress the story, no matter how they want to play. As long as I can run my buddies into a light trail from my bike, I'll be happy.
