More Modern Warfare 2 PC Woes The bad gets worse. PC gamers have often been on the short end of the stick on gaming for awhile now except for one thing: Multiplayer. Mods, dedicated servers, better clan support, and VOIP programs like Ventrilo and Teamspeak usually make the PC multiplayer experience better than their console counterparts. Modern Warfare 2, which is poised to be the best selling FPS of all time, is only full of disappointments to the PC crowd unfortunately.

Dedicated servers have already been taken away from the PC version and now comes more. The first blow comes via the amount of player able to play on a server. COD4 (keeping in mind that these were on dedicated servers)  allowed up to 32 players to play. MW2 allows 18. 9v9. So not only will you not be able to have a clan server, if you're clan has more than 9 players in it you aren't even going to be able to all play at the same time. Let's not jump to conclusions and assume this is solely IWNet's (the new PC multiplayer service) fault, IW says this is because of balancing issues and that the maps are best played 9v9.

The next blow? The fact that you can't kick anybody. Say there's a hacker on tearing it up and you and your cohorts are fed up and want to kick him (or her, but I'd like to think that female gamers don't hack.... and all look like Olivia Munn). In most games, you could call a vote to remove said hacker although in MW2 you'll have no such luck. IW says that they will handle hackers themselves and when asked how they will deal with it IW simply responded, “Our goal is to ban hackers from the game.” Well that's terrific but I see that failing miserably with all the hackers that got past the anti cheating system in COD4.

So at least there's a console right, where we can tweak stuff and make things to our liking such as binds and different contrasts and such? No. Okay, but I can record all the awesome stuff with an in-game recorder that shows me pwning ppl left and right with the old fashioned P90/Knife combo right? No. Okay well can we edit the resolution to fit the best resolution of my monitor or am I stuck with the ones that are in game? You are stuck with the ones in game. For a game that's the highest anticipated FPS of all time, there sure are a lot more no's then yes's.

Okay so the players can all choose who is host right? No, the game will control who is host, if it chooses Mr. Pr0n downloader than the game will be laggy as hell and you're going to have to sit there and deal with that, not only that but if the host leaves there will be a delay while the game chooses a new host. That's one thing I hated most about Halo 3, was the fact that you couldn't choose who was host and if the host left there was a really long delay.

One perk over the console game is that you'll be able to talk to other people that aren't in the game with multiplayer (you can no longer be in an XBOX Live party and a MW2 multiplayer game at the same time). But that's not due to IWNet, that's because you can use applications like Ventrilo and Teamspeak. Way to go us.

When asked what is totally different about the PC version and the console version as far as the game is concerned, IW simply stated: “PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.” As far as I'm concerned EVERY PC GAME MADE AFTER 1992 (and seriously don't correct me, I know you're out there) HAS MOUSE CONTROL AND EVERY PC MULTIPLAYER GAME SUPPORTS TEXT CHAT AND EVERY GAME ALLOWS YOU TO CHANGE THE GRAPHICS IN SOME WAY. Seriously IW? C'mon man.
