INTERPLAY TO UPDATE CLAYFIGHTER FOR PLAY ON Wii&Nintendo DSi
BEVERLY HILLS, CA, September 10, 2009 - Interplay Entertainment Corp. (OTC BB:IPLY) today announced it will update Clayfighter for play on Wii™ and Nintendo DSi™.
Clayfighter will be developed for Interplay by StudioBlack Games' Eric Hart, original programmer of Clayfighter for Super NES™. Interplay CEO Hervé Caen commented, "We are very enthusiastic to resurrect Clayfighter's crazy characters and unique humor. Eric Hart's involvement in the previous Clayfighter titles makes StudioBlack the logical choice to give this classic franchise a well-deserved makeover." Fans can expect improved graphics and revamped game play to take advantage of Nintendo's current generation hardware.
Clayfighter is planned for a Summer 2010 release via digital download through Nintendo's WiiWare™ and DSiWare™ services.
What does this mean for gamers? For some, this will be a nostalgia trip, filled with some laugh out loud funny moments and, for the time, some pretty great gameplay and another entry in the fighting game library for both of Nintendo's system. For the un-initiated this is going to be a pretty big shock I think. It feels like it could very well be one of those gaming moments where someone who has no knowledge of this old franchise might say, "You played that?"
And you can't blame them when the roster includes special guests Earthworm Jim and Boogerman... Wait, you don't remember Boogerman?
Look upon him and wonder.
Anyway, they appear along with the Elvis impersonating Blue Suede Goo and franchise impact player Bad Mr. Frosty, a snowman with a bad attitude. That is really all you needed to create an edgy character years back – a bad attitude. No quest for vengeance that includes acrobatic assassinations and no one-man army style war scenarios complete with chainsaw machine gun hybrids.
The game was followed up with two sequels, C2: Judgement Clay and Clayfighter 63 1/3 (a play on the N64 games that seemed to always have 64 in their title, much like the SNES ‘Super’ mantra for almost every game). With so many games from years past flooding the current generations download systems I was wondering when a title like this would show its face. Now if they can bring back Ballz, then they’ll have my attention.
What? What I say?
