Alone
Psychological horror, Alone, is announced here and we will see how dark our dreams will truly be in the world of Alone
If there is one thing that the horror genre is not going to be this year when it comes to games, is that we are not going to be short on them. Especially as we add in another small title to the mix with the announcement of Alone coming to the PC here. A new title on the way from River Flower Games that will not only be a horror, but one that delves a bit into mental health. It is odd how those keep getting intertwined, but for the masses, I'm assuming it is all still a horrifying thing. Something that Alone will be diving into with the way it is going to be telling its story, along with the roguelite gameplay we will have to endure to try and make sense of the story.
I mention the story bit for Alone, as the roguelite elements of the game seem to have us restarting at different points in the story loop we find ourselves in as we play as the two different characters in the game. The reason behind this is so we can make different choices at the points we find ourselves in with Charles as he relives the various nightmares, or wandering the silences with Danny in the mix. Learning the trauma and tackling the darkness, all of that will bring up in Alone. All to lead to a few different conclusions based on the choices we made or changed along the way. A weird way to go about it, but if done correctly, it will be a truly interesting experience to wander through. We'll just have to wait and see how it will all evolve after the following bit of footage we do have for the game.
Alone — Announcement
Alone redefines psychological horror in a roguelite format, intertwining two lives marked by tragedy. Uncover Charles’s secrets within his nightmares and experience the absolute silence of Danny. This title balances desperate defense with non-linear storytelling to tackle themes of mental health and trauma, grounded in rigorous research for profound realism.
Alone features a decision-making system in 2D with a more classic style, which directly acts upon the 3D scenario and its ambiance, influencing the ending of your story.
Upon dying, you return to the beginning of the nightmare, but at the same time to a different moment in the story, with the opportunity to change your decisions to see other possible outcomes. This aims to guarantee a unique experience with each attempt.
It conveys the overwhelming feeling of enclosed spaces in first person, and the perspective of appreciating the wide panorama of chaos in third person.
A story that can be told from the end to the beginning, or vice versa, thanks to its homogeneity.
Is it weird that the game is called Alone yet we'll still be playing as two characters? Will the non-linear storytelling pay off in the game? How many choices will we need to make and alter along the way? Will there be an option to see how the whole story should play out after we've made it through the journey at least once? Let's talk all about this in the comment section further down the page. Alone seems like it could be a fun way to tackle a few things, so we'll keep an eye out for more on the game. If we do manage to get some bigger updates, we'll share them on the site and our socials for you. Please follow along on all of them so you don't miss a single choice along the way.
