Beneath
The Retro Mode for Beneath is out there to keep us all entertained as we go further Beneath for the season
Just as it was laid out there, Beneath has gone a bit further retro for the holiday season to keep us pulled into our PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC. The new and free mode for the game has been launched out there as a nice little holiday gift from Camel 101. It also gives fans of Beneath a reason to do another run through the game and see if they are as good as they think they are. It might not be so easy to line up shots or spot hidden things when we are working with the visuals from the '90s here. Part of the point of this new way to play the game. A way that can be done as long as you own a copy and have downloaded the latest update for the game. It really could not be much easier for you to have this blast from the past.
Outside of the visuals of Beneath getting an option to be downgraded, that is the only thing that seems to be changing if you do go with the mode here. Well, beyond an extra filter being placed over the screen to further the level of visual degradation, as we still need to worry about the fast-paced shooting and horrors coming at us. Not to mention, it looks like the blood and gore will be left the same, so when that blob of pixels is shot down, expect the torrents of red to come splashing on the screen. A weird way to want to play Beneath, but I am sure it is because there was a demand for it somewhere along the line. A demand that has been filled as of now, since, again, you can update your game and head out there in the following mode as soon as you are done reading all of this. Have a look and see what will be waiting for you as you try to hide from the horrors of the season.
Beneath — Retro Mode Launch Trailer
Bringing you bleeding-edge visuals (circa 1998), Retro mode brings the same combat, the same oppressive deep sea horror, but reborn in glorious low resolution. Retro mode combines some adjusted visual presentation and filter techniques to bring back the ‘sat in front of the tv cross legged at midnight’ nostalgia, and if we do say so ourselves… really adds a distinct charm to our nightmare-filled research stations.
Beneath is a Lovecraft-inspired survival FPS built by two brothers. Scarce ammo, merciless enemies, and a sense of the unknown combine in a 10+ hour, story-driven single player campaign, built for both veteran gamers and those seeking an old school experience.
Seasoned diver Noah Quinn’s routine expedition plunges him into chaos, trapping him in the depths of the ocean, where an ancient evil lurks. As supplies dwindle and nightmarish creatures close in, Noah must confront horrifying mutations and unravel a sinister conspiracy that threatens humanity itself. With his daughter’s life hanging in the balance, Noah is pushed to his limits in a desperate race against time. Can he uncover the truth and stop an ancient horror from surfacing, or will the abyss consume them all?
Will you be paying Beneath again in this mode, or is this just a gimmick to get more players back into the game? Will it be hard to figure out what the horrors are in the game in this mode, or will they pop a bit more with fewer shadows to hide in? Why would they even do this and draw attention away from the art that has been done, or was this a plan from the beginning but needed time to stew? Let us have the discussion in the comment section further down the page. If there is more to update for Beneath, we certainly will do that for you. Please follow the website and the various social media accounts so you are informed of all of them as they come. Even if this is a season where you might be busier than most.
