Mutter Is On The Way To Bring Us A New Bit Of Stop-Motion Horror

Mutter

A new puzzle game, Mutter, has been announced with Mutter offering up a fun, artistic style for the gameplay

It certainly feels like we are getting a lot of wandering puzzle games out there lately, and now we have another on the way to us with Mutter. A new title on the PC from DeadlyCrow Games, with a demo ready for you to play as of right now. Even if there is no current release date for the game, we can have a sample. But why should we take in that sample? All so we can experience the stop-motion style of animation that Mutter is going to have as we explore the world and solve the puzzles within. Along with a very dark story that seems to be in the works as well. The style may not be completely something we haven't seen before, but the rest of the game might make up for all of that. Stick around to learn a bit more of it all now.

In Mutter, we will be playing as Maddox Holloway. A 9-year-old boy in the middle of nowhere, England, during the 1940s. Not the best time to be living through in the first place, but it looks as if things could get a lot darker than that. There seems to be an affliction going about that Maddox's mother has fallen to, and he must do all that he can to keep her from turning into something truly monstrous. Partially, where the title Mutter is coming from, if I had to assume. To keep the affliction at bay, Maddox will have to head out of the house, forage, and complete various other puzzles to make sure he and his mother are fed and the rest of the area doesn't fall into disarray. If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was all a massive metaphor for what was going on during the times, but then we also get to see his mother turning into a massive spider, so all guesses are welcome now. Have a look and see if the demo and game will be worth your time now.

Mutter — Announcement

Meet Maddox Holloway, a 9-year-old boy in rural England, 1940. With his father at the front lines of World War II, a dark affliction slowly consumes his mother, twisting her into something monstrous. Mutter follows Maddox’s harrowing struggle as he faces fear, suffering, and a crushing sense of responsibility, confronting the creature his mother is becoming while holding onto who she once was.

Explore a haunting world built with a handcrafted stop-motion aesthetic. Solve puzzles, wander the countryside, and uncover the tragic mystery behind your family’s curse. More than a fight for survival, this is an unsettling tale about the fragile bonds of family and the quiet horrors of war.

  • Adventure, Exploration & Puzzles — Solve environmental puzzles, interact with the environment with platformer mechanics, and explore the interconnected countryside using your bicycle to reach new locations between your quests.
  • Resources & Crafting — Tend your garden, gather vegetables and herbs, and craft essential items needed to endure the adventure and progress through the story. Find and craft specific recipes to elaborate potions, healing soups, and food dishes to keep your mother and yourself alive.
  • A Haunting Stop-Motion World Of Wonder & Nightmares — Journey through a handcrafted stop-motion world where every tactile, eerie scene mirrors an emotionally intense story of childhood grief, trauma, and fractured family bonds. The flavour of horror we are tapping into leans more to psychological tension and memorable emotional impact rather than traditional horror.
  • An Original Haunting Soundtrack — A fully original, eerie score that deepens the immersion and emotion throughout your journey till the bitter end.

Do you like the art style that Mutter is going to be giving us all in the game? Will this all be a bigger metaphor for the darkness that was going on during the time? Will we be able to save our mother in this game, or will she always be doomed? How much time can we spend in the garden and doing random tasks beyond being stalked in the dark woods out there? Let's have all of that discussion in the comment section below. I'm intrigued by Mutter, and will keep a close eye on what comes out for it. That way, I'll be able to share it all with you on the site and our socials out there. Just keep your eye peeled there so you don't miss out on a single update that we have to share with the bigger world out there.
