Hellraiser
A new developer diary for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is out there to help us show how Hellraiser is finally coming to video games
One of the more interesting updates we had that was not part of The Game Awards this year had to be from Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival. Almost as if the award show was even afraid to touch the topic of the game. Yet Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games carry it all onward to make sure we know what is going on. Perhaps it is due to the graphic nature of the Hellraiser IP, and the awards show did not want to risk losing any of that ad revenue, so they played it safe for themselves while keeping gamers in the dark about it. Given that this is a new developer diary where the team and talent are talking about the violence and sexual themes that we know we are going to experience here. Take that as a warning that we are about to delve into some sensitive topics before we proceed to see how their vision is coming to life.
So the bigger thing for us all to take note here is that Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is not just a name to grab attention with the name slapped on, it appears that Clive Barker has been working close to all involved with the game to make sure the 40 years of legacy is brought to light in a perfect way. That means all of the graphic visuals of pain and all of the sexual content that fans of the IP have been used to. As we follow a protagonist who mirrors a character from the films, along with a story that sounds rather familiar. Boy meets girl. They fall in love. Do some freaky stuff, and find the puzzle box. They open the box, and the girl is ripped apart into fleshy bits. A tail as old as time. All as we delve deeper into the Hellraiser lore and universe, trying to get answers and survive the Sights we are about to see. Most of it there to make you uncomfortable, but never to the point of gratuitous. Have a watch of the developers dropping all of that knowledge on us just a bit down the page, and one more warning that there are intercut scenes from the game that might not sit well with everyone.
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival — The Vision
A dark, discomforting journey awaits.
Enter the shadows and discover more about the story everyone’s whispering about.
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival delivers a totally new Hellraiser story starring Aidan, who is on a journey to save his girlfriend from Hell and the realm of terrors ahead.
Using the Genesis Configuration puzzle box, unlock dark and mysterious powers as you face dark cultist worshippers, sex-crazed deviants, and infernal monstrosities. Arm yourself with various jaw-dropping weapons - some cruel, some strangely fun - but will it be enough to spare you from an eternity of torment?
Are you surprised that Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival was not shown during the awards show, or does everyone have to play it safe and self-censor for the all-mighty dollar? Do you think that this game is going to be too graphic for many gamers out there, and will it only be the cult of fans that will truly enjoy it all? Will there be an option in the game to censor some of the content, as we have seen in other titles like this, or will the team stick to their vision and what the IP has always been about? Let us talk all about that in the comment section down the page. There is still so much more on the way for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, and we will have it all for you here. Please keep watching the website and our social media so you can see when we put it all live for you.
