Deepest Fear
A new title, Deepest Fear, is on the way that will take us deep underwater to head out and face our Deepest Fear
We are heading back under the seas to face more of those fears out there with the announcement of Deepest Fear. A new title that Variable State is working on and announced during the recent PC Gaming Show to will give horror fans yet another title to add to their PC library out there. One that looks like it will be taking some heavy inspiration from works like The Thing and The Abyss. All so we can face some of our Deepest Fear out there… as long as that fear is about water itself coming to life and trying to help us end with all of our living out there. A nightmarish though for sure, but let us dig in further now that we have an announcement and trailer to look at for the game.
In Deepest Fear, we are taking the role of Dr. Danni Carroll who finds themselves thrust into a retro-futuristic facility seven miles under the ocean. Not only do we find ourselves trapped down there, but beings made of pure water are coming in and attacking us while we are trying to make it back to the surface. All while making sure the structure we are in is also failing and flooding in more. Just to make things scarier for us, Deepest Fear will be adding to the atmosphere of it all with some real-time fluid sims and other physics reactions to immerse us even further into the world. As if being in a first-person view with all of this and worrying if our bullets would crack the glass was not going to be too much already. Have a look and see what is on the way to us with this game and see if it is going to be the next big horror title you wet yourself with.
Deepest Fear — Announcement
Announced for Steam at the PC Gaming Show, Deepest Fear, by Variable State, invites players into a first-person, unsettling survival horror experience set deep beneath the ocean’s surface, in the claustrophobic confines of a decaying underwater facility. This sci-fi horror shooter brings to life a new kind of terror as water itself becomes a living threat, with real-time fluid simulation allowing nightmarish entities to emerge from any water source or submerged space within the hermetic confines of the Neptune facility.
As Dr. Danni Carroll, players are thrust into the labyrinthine depths of Neptune, a mysterious retro-futuristic facility hiding dark secrets and dangerous truths. Trapped far from rescue, Danni must contend with hostile creatures that spawn from water sources, a failing infrastructure, and shifting, submerged environments that change with each moment. With survival on the line, players must harness their wits and an arsenal of tools to uncover the mysteries surrounding a project masterminded by Danni’s estranged father.
Incorporating the creative problem-solving of the Immersive Sim genre and Metroidvania-style exploration, Deepest Fear pushes the horror genre forward with a chilling blend of atmosphere, environment puzzles, real-time fluid simulation, and high-stakes survival mechanics. Inspired by iconic works of cinema such as The Abyss and The Thing, the game is set to release on PC, with future announcements planned.
