Street Fighter
The next character for Street Fighter 6 is almost here with Ed coming back from Street Fighter V to punch some holes
If you needed more fighters to join in for Street Fighter 6, then keep an eye on the game this February 27th. At least if you picked up the character pass for the game from Capcom already. I say this because it looks as if our next DLC character is on the way to the game then so we have more to fight with on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. All as we get another alumnus from Street Fighter V back in the fight and bringing more of that rage we expected. Ed is finally pulled back in and bringing all manner of new gameplay for us to experience if we can all hold out a few more weeks for the DLC to drop.
We all knew that Ed was on the way to Street Fighter 6, we just did not know when. Now, we can have a little look at the new gameplay Ed will offer into the game along with the other extras that will be dropping at the same time. Extras like more stages to fight in and other skins for Ed to wear while using all of those Psycho abilities that have now been linked to the character. You can have a good look at Ed in motion for Street Fighter 6 just a little lower so you can better decide if you are going to be spending the extra money or time on the game. My guess is that those invested already will be doing this no matter how the character looks and flows here.
Street Fighter 6 — Ed Gameplay
Get ready to float like a butterfly and sting like a Psycho-powered bee when the formidable boxer Ed arrives in Street Fighter 6 starting on Feb. 27, 2024, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Ed becomes the 21st playable character following Rashid and A.K.I.’s release last year. Players will encounter the pugilistic puncher across all three game modes of Street Fighter 6 – World Tour, Fighting Ground, and Battle Hub.
The “Ed Arrives!” Fighting Pass is also now live for a limited time, so players can pick up some boxing equipment for themselves and gear up for the fight!
Alongside Ed’s release, a brand new stage called Ruined Lab will drop, showcasing the aftermath of Shadaloo’s fall as its laboratory lies in shambles. Owners of the Year 1 Ultimate Pass and Ultimate Edition will automatically receive this stage when Ed is released. Various quality-of-life updates will also be introduced, including the ability to switch button displays on PC and an Extra Lighting feature being added to Photo Mode.
First appearing in Street Fighter V, after rejecting the evil intentions of M. Bison, Ed managed to escape the grasps of the Shadaloo organization and create Neo Shadaloo with the hopes of helping others like him. His attacks in Street Fighter 6 have changed significantly since the latest installment with all of his attacks now being punches. Ed, the initial inspiration of Modern Controls in Street Fighter 6, will also retain his simplified controls, while now receiving expanded inputs for his Classic Controls.
Get ready for some of Ed’s knockout moves, including:
- Psycho Flicker: A quick flicker jab from a distance that can go in one of three directions to catch the opponent off-guard and is vital to Ed’s ability to control space. If you hold this button down, Ed will use his Psycho Snatcher from Street Fighter V where he can pull in opponents with psycho-powered tendrils
- Psycho Blitz: Unleashes a series of punches cloaked in Psycho Power
- Psycho Storm: Ed’s Level 1 Super Art sees him striking opponents with a series of high-speed flicker jabs
- Psycho Cannon: Ed’s Level 2 Super Art, previously from Street Fighter V, generates a multi-hitting ball of psycho power that moves forward
- Psycho Chamber: Ed’s Level 3 Super Art turns opponents into his own personal punching bag by tying together their hands and feet and pummeling them in the name of Neo Shadaloo
Ed will be unlocked for owners of the Year 1 Character Pass, Year 1 Ultimate Pass, Deluxe Edition, or Ultimate Edition on Feb. 27. Ed’s Outfit 2, which is inspired by his Story Outfit from Street Fighter V, will also be available when he arrives.
Given how out of the loop I have been in the Street Fighter IP, I am not overly familiar with Ed in the game, but the character does look like they will be adding in some new touches to the mix. I do like the use of the purple gas or electricity to pull enemies back in while they try to set up other combos. I have no clue how easy that will be to pull off, but it is nice to see some newer things beyond the normal button mashing most would equate to the Street Fighter setting. Ed looks like they will be a more technical character in practice and I am sure we are going to see the abuse of all of this soon before the next big tournaments kick off.
Are you excited to be able to get Ed into Street Fighter 6 here or will you be skipping this character for now? How technical will Ed be in the fight or will these be quick moves that will feel "cheap" when fighting online with others? Does Ed fit into the story easily or is there a long and convoluted story as to why Ed is out here punching holes in faces? Head into the comment section to fight it all out and discuss it all. When there is more for Street Fighter 6 to share, we will try to do so here. Please keep on coming back to see and hear about all of that as we head further into the timeline.
