Metro
Get ready to virtually step into the world of Metro with the announcement we have for Metro Awakening
There were many surprises and announcements during the most recent State Of Play that PlayStation held, and here we go with Metro Awakening getting added into the mix. If you recognize part of the title from past titles, then you would be on the right track as Deep Silver is working with Vertigo Games to bring us another run in the Metro line of titles and in the massive novel world that has been built. This time, though, it will be on the PC and PS5 in a VR and PS VR2 setting. All so we can better experience the Armageddon that we have not fully been able to experience as of yet. That does not sound frightening at all…
If you are not up to date on the Metro line of games, it is an IP that has us playing as a survivor in Russia after the world has ended by Nuclear war. Those who survived the radiation and mutations did so by living in the underground railway stations. Humans being humans, though, this turned south quickly and new dangers presented themselves through religion and other spiritual things. in Metro Awakening, we will be placed in the role of Serdar who is on a similar quest of exploration with all of the horrors this world has to offer. All in a nice little virtual space. So, get ready to scrounge for weapons and ammo, sneak about all manner of underground facilities, and run from the horrors that are out there. More from the humans than the mutations it would seem.
Metro Awakening — Announcement
Metro Awakening is a story-driven first-person adventure built exclusively for VR coming to PS VR2, Meta Quest 2 + 3, and Steam VR in 2024. Developed by Vertigo Games in collaboration with Deep Silver and Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Awakening allows you to immerse yourself in the world of Metro in an entirely new dimension.
Set in 2028, you are Serdar, a doctor who has to brave the mind-bending tunnels of Metro to search for his missing wife. This journey will push his mind to the limit – walking a line between life and death, rationality and spirituality, reality and belief. Serdar will experience what he once thought was impossible, awakening the force he is to become.
Lose yourself in an authentic Metro experience as you reload weapons, change your filters, charge your torch, and more, in a tactile experience that VR and Metro fans will love and put yourself into nuclear Armageddon.
I am on a fence for Metro Awakening as it all stands. The first game in the line was one of my favorites, but as they kept on coming out, they all rather dwindled in enjoyment in return. Given some of the frantic nature of things and the precision needed in the games before, it is hard to see how placing it all in VR will make any of it shine again. I have had those concerns in the past with other games, so I know that it can be possible, but Metro always felt like it was best as a FPS where our twitch aim was a boon. Having to keep our heads on a swivel in this one, feels like we might be missing out on a few things or the game leading to being harder to truly appreciate all of the elements going on in the moving machine. We will just have to wait and see for now.
How do you feel about all of the Metro leading up to now and have you been seeing the diminished returns too? Do you think we will need to lean more into the stealth in this game or will it be more of the running and gunning in this world? How do you think the story will flow out there is this one and will it be linear more than the recent open world that we had in the last massive launch? Wander on into the comment section to discuss all of that and let the world know. When there is more to offer up for Metro Awakening, we will have those updates on the site for you. Please keep on coming back by to see and hear about all of them as they do flow on out there.
