Somerville
The PlayStation release for Somerville is on the way with Somerville dropping on the new platform before the end of the month
It looks like we are getting another game in the mix that is leaping from console exclusive onto another with the announcement that Somerville will be heading to the PS4 and PS5 on August 31st. This was the title that Jumpship gave to the world in 2022 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but after getting acquired by Thunderful Games, it looks like they have put more life back into the title. That or it was just time for Somerville to finally come out for all of the main platforms as of now. Leaving just one in the lurch for the time being, but maybe that could change if we all dive into this game as they hope we will.
For those that may have missed everything for Somerville, this is a sci-fi adventure that places us in the devastation of an alien invasion on Earth. Now, we must venture out to explore the devastation of it all while hiding and fleeing from the aliens that are still a force to be reckoned with. All so we can find out why all of this happened and without a single word spoken in the game. That is the storytelling method being used and not something to poke at using text files for. That should play into the multiple endings of Somerville a bit more too and soon, many more gamers will get to see how this all pans out for them too. Have a look at the latest tease for all of this.
Somerville — PlayStation Release Date
Thunderful and Jumpship are pleased to announce that their mysterious sci-fi adventure, Somerville, is coming to PlayStation on August 31st. In this narrative sci-fi adventure, you step into a world hit by an otherworldly invasion. Discover the intimate repercussions of large-scale conflict as you explore a rich and atmospheric world transformed by catastrophe on your way to making your family whole again. This will be Jumpship’s first release since being acquired by Thunderful in November 2022.
As you explore Somerville, the devastation left behind by the invading alien force and those who resisted will tell its own story without a word being spoken. The alien lifeforms from which you must flee or hide on this adventure might just provide clues to delve even deeper into the true meaning of this conflict and unlock multiple endings that help reveal the true significance of the strange events to which you bear witness.
I know I am a little curious to find out why it took so long for Somerville to finally make the leap to the other main console line out there. That and if we will ever see it leap onto the Switch at some point. I know it would make sense to claim that it was Thunderful picking up the other studio and pumping a bit more money in, but this all feels like it is something that could have been done at the main launch. I could be wrong, as I do not know the backend of things for the studio leading up to the launch of Somerville. I just know that it is always a pain to watch as a third-party title is forced to stay to an exclusive when the whole gaming community should be allowed to experience it all from day one.
Have you had a chance to experience Somerville so far or do you need to wait until the end of the month to give it a go? Do you think that it is Thunderful that made this happen or was it always in the works and none of the business side of things were a factor at all? Could it also make the leap onto the Switch at some point or will this be the last we hear about this title until it launches again out there? Creep on down to the comment section and then feel free to discuss it all as you so wish to do. We will share anything else we can for Somerville, so be sure to keep checking in for those updates and many more along the way.
