Hollywood and Video Games: An OpEd
by Ben Brody [ Monday, 3rd of August 2009 - 01:58 PM ]
Two words that should never belong to each other: Movie Game. Let's face it, except for a select few (and let's keep in mind that GoldenEye 007 came out 2 years after the movie did), very few licensed games of a film have been even halfway decent, and yet more and more are coming out. Games from series like Harry Potter and Ice Age have been hits with kids that liked the films, but movie based games have failed to find a home with more mature audiences. Games like Resident Evil, Max Payne and Tomb Raider have spawned successful (Box office wise) movies, yet very few mature movies have spawned successful games. Perhaps it's due to the inherent fact that while in video games, players often feel like they have the freedom to make a choice that will affect how the game turns out. Read More...

Video Games Live Rocks the Queen City
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 30th of July 2009 - 01:13 PM ]
Since its inception in 2005, Video Games Live has been entertaining crowds across the globe.  With its epic scores, great energy and audience participation, VGL promotes the gaming industry in an extremely positive way.  Created by famous video game composers Jack Wall and Tommy Tallarico, the concert series’ agenda of solidifying game music as an art form and the games industry as a positive force are present and spotlighted but are carefully swaddled by the fun, excitement and showmanship.  The first show, in the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, had over 11,000 people and was instantly a phenomenon.  As the first few years have passed, the show has slowly made its way down to smaller cities and venues. Aggrocast Episode 27: We're Back
by Michael Camacho [ Tuesday, 12th of May 2009 - 11:08 AM ]
EPISODE 27: Michael, Brian and Binh are back with the brand new Aggrocast Hello faithful readers and listeners. As many may know, when we launched Aggrogamer.com, we brought the Pwned.com Podcast, Total Meltdown, over with us. We changed the name of it to the more suitable title of Aggrocast. We retain the same cast of Michael (G-Nitro), Brian (Quiglin), and Binh (Church). We also kept the same format but moved around a bit to settle in properly with the site, and we also made sure the same craziness, humor and entertainment is still there. With that, we hope you enjoy the new Aggrocast, as we really enjoyed being back on the podcast scene after a few weeks off. Read More...

French Please?
by Binh Nguyen [ Saturday, 4th of April 2009 - 10:43 AM ]
So how would you like to play a game that speaks only French? Imagine seeing “Qu’est-ce que tu fais ici, vous stupid idiot!” (What the hell are you doing here you stupid idiot, and you thought reading this you wouldn’t learn anything) Well in Quebec you can. You heard that right, according to the Toronto Star, as of April 1st (and no this is not April fool joke…) Quebec passed a law to prohibit sales of new English-only video in Quebec if a French version is available. Because of this law retailers and gamers will have to wait for new releases to come to Quebec due to developers having to spend extra time to make the games French only. “I’m afraid it’s going to cost me my business” said Ronnie Rondeau, co-owner of Game Buzz around Montreal, “If it really was going to make a difference, I’d be for it, but only a small number of people want to play in French. Go Utah??
by Binh Nguyen [ Thursday, 26th of March 2009 - 11:34 AM ]
Well it seems Utah is not as conservative after all. Utah Governor Jon Huntsman (r) has vetoes video games and movie retail restriction bill. To those who don’t know about it, it’s the bill (that was originally written by Jack Thompson and legislator Mike Morle) that would enforce strict penalties on retailers who sells M-Rated games and Rated R movies to “buyers subject to an age restriction or recommendation.”   Utah Governor Jon Huntsman (r) wrote a letter to House Speaker David Clark and Utah Senate President Michael Waddoups about why he vetoed the video game bill: (from Sainless: http://saintless.com/2009/03/25/gov-vetoed-hb-353/)“Dear Speaker Clark and President Waddoups: After careful consideration and study, I have decided to veto HB 353, TRUTH IN ADVERTISING ACT AMENDMENTS, and have transmitted it to the Lieutenant Governor for filing. Save the Date
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 23rd of March 2009 - 06:13 PM ]
VGXPO Tickets On Sale Now Who doesn't like to save a buck given the state of the economy right now? Am I right? It has been dwindling a lot of gamers resources to make it to huge gaming events or conventions just in general. CES wasn't as big as it usually is, and I'm sure that this will kind of be the case all conventions over. But that isn't what I am going to drawl on about here. No. Read More...

Wii Are Old And Fit
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 30th of September 2008 - 04:14 PM ]
Video Gamers Surprisingly Fit and Older Yes, the title was a bit misleading, but it was what I could think up for this article. Deal with it. :) But that doesn't make this latest study any less interesting for the world of gaming, especially for online gaming. Since this is where most of the test data came from. This study was pulled out of about 7000 people on EverQuest servers. At least partly. Read More...

VIDEO GAMES LIVE ALBUM DEBUTS AT #10 ON THE BILLBOARD CHARTS! So I was going to write another review on the Comic Con Video Games Live show, but I saw this and thought this was a better way to say how cool it was. I will point out that it is a different show depending on where you see it, the show in San Diego had fireworks and a different game they played on stage. Not to mention the Cos-Play of the people adding to the whole thing. Pics are below. Read More...

Something For The Cranky Dwarf In All Of Us
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 31st of July 2008 - 07:55 PM ]
American McGee's Grimm: A Boy Learns What Fear Is I know I like free stuff. I also like vidja games. What could be better than Free Vidja Games? Right? Well I guess ones about a twisted version of the fairy tales we all grew to love. Even though the originals were twisted in the first place, but I digest... It would seem that today marks the first release of the new American McGee game, Grimm. You may know his work for twisting up Alice in Wonderland a few years back. Read More...

The Greatest Show On Earth
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 16th of June 2008 - 07:59 PM ]
Video Games Live Ok, so first let me say, if you haven't heard of this show or had no interest in going, I would say look into it or re-think it. It may not sound all that awesome when you first hear about it, but it was probably one of the best shows I have seen in quite some time. Worth braving the heat and a little bit of sun here in Vegas to go see it as well. If that gives you any inkling on how good it is. Here, let me give you a quick overview of what myself and a few other members here got to go through with this event. Read More...
