Battleborn Is Here For Every Kind Of Badass

It has been some time since we had much to cover here in the ways of Battleborn but it looks like Gearbox has decided to break the silence and give us a new trailer for the game. Not only a new trailer just in time for E3 but a whole bunch of new information to make sure we all know that Battleborn is going to be a game for every type of badass out there. I'm talking gun-toting badasses, knife-wielding badasses, robot badasses, mushroom man badasses, and hopefully tax preparing badasses. Okay, Battleborn most likely won't have the last one there but it will have options for all of us badasses on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

In case you have forgotten Battleborn is a first person shooter type that has a distant future story. In fact it is so distant that all of the stars in the universe have snuffed out and all of the 25 playable characters will be vying for the right to the remaining resources that the surviving population needs. Pretty standard "save the world" kind of thing that we can expect from most titles like this. At least as close as Gearbox will get given their history and prior titles. Of course this is also all about the story mode that will be modular for those who don't want to go through all of the missions to get the story they want.

Battleborn — For Every Kind Of Badass

On top of the story mode for Battleborn there will obviously be a multiplayer mode. You don't cram 25 playable characters into a game like Battleborn and not include a multiplayer mode right? Just like the story mode this will be a 5 player team-based event that will take these teams into full on war in three different modes. Here is a quick rundown of the three different multiplayer modes in Battleborn just for you badasses out there.

  • Incursion: Teams of heroes defend their base from waves of AI-controlled minions while working together, alongside their own minions, to destroy their opponents' base.
  • Devastation: Teams of heroes face off in a fast-paced death match and must capture and hold objectives on the map to win.
  • Meltdown: Teams of heroes protect their minions as they march to their death at the center of the map. Points are scored for minions who throw themselves into the incinerator, and the team with the most points wins.

Of course there is a whole purpose outside of completing the story for Battleborn and this all boils down to the Persistent Progression System for the game. This is the character leveling system for Battleborn that collects experience no matter the mode you are playing in. This seems to be the way all games have been going lately so that all of those offline players can have the same fun and experience that the multiplayer crowd does. Of course here for Battleborn this experience levels up two different ranks just so things don't get as confusing as other title's progression systems.

  • Character Rank: Each hero can permanently rank up from 1 to 10 outside of missions and matches, allowing players to swap out augments in their helix skill tree, as well as unlock skins.
  • Command Rank: Players can rank-up their own player profile, unlocking badges and titles to impress friends, and loot that can be used to benefit any hero the player chooses to command.

So there you have it all not so much in a nut shell any more. I am sure that all of this information will be expanded upon during E3 as I have a feeling Battleborn will be taking up the same booth real estate that Evolve did in the past. Either that or we will all be allowed to just play a great demo for Battleborn and be on our merry ways talking about what Gearbox has created that is outside of their normal box. Good times all round I am sure.

Now that you have all the intel for Battleborn, what do you think? Does it look like it will be the next best thing for the developer or just another multiplayer shooter that will get lost in the mix of all of the other titles that it is akin to? There are a lot of options and characters but will that be enough for your attentions? Let us know all of those answers down in the comments and be sure to keep it locked in here for all things Battleborn as we will hopefully be updating more and more now that we have seen the game in action.
