Prey
A new gameplay video for Prey has released to showcase how we can use the powers of the Mimics in Prey to get around the game and survive
One could say that once you've seen one of Prey's mimics in action then you've seen them all. That one person would be wrong as mimic can look and act like anything, but it gets even more compounded by the fact that Arkane Studios has also given us all the ability to do the same in the game through one of the first powers we unlock in the game. We've seen the enemies use it before but now we get to see just how we will get to handle it in Prey and it looks like it could be something truly silly or something that could save our lives in the game. Something that seems to be the case in all of Bethesda's titles now doesn't it?
Much like any other game out there, Prey's mimic ability will be upgradable throughout the game. The first level will allow us to turn into very basic objects and roll around as them, but as we progress we can take on the form of more complex items in the game. You'll see it below in terms of a roll of toilet paper and a full on mechanical turret. Both of which will have their advantages, but it looks like the best one is to get the drop or to hide from all of the creatures in Prey. Although it looks like the Mimics in the game can tell when you are just pretending to be them and not a real version of the object. Unless it only really works well when you change without them seeing.
Prey — Mimic Madness
When you awaken aboard the Talos I space station, you that find you are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. Talos I has been overrun by an alien force, and you must stop the Typhon threat from destroying humanity. As Morgan Yu, and mankind’s last hope, fend off the alien infestation armed with the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities.
One of the first powers you’ll learn is Mimic Matter. Acquired from the diminutive (and aptly named) Mimic Typhon, this power allows you to take the form of just about any appropriately sized object aboard Talos I. You’ll start small – a coffee mug, a teapot, a lamp, a banana – but as you level up this ability, you’ll soon be able to mimic more complex objects, including an impressive array of security turrets and Operator robots.
When you reach Level 2 of Mimic Matter, you can take the form of more complex objects like turrets. “You not only look like a turret but you can fire like a turret,” says Lead Systems Designer Seth Shain. “If you’re running low on ammo, it's a really useful way to take down enemies.” And as you further advance this ability, you’ll eventually be able to mimic Operator robots and fly through Talos I with different robotic tools and weapons.
With over 400 items you can mimic, Prey allows for an astounding amount of emergent gameplay with this one power alone. “The ability to look around a room, to activate the mimic power and then choose what object I want to turn into never ceases to delight me,” says Lead Producer Susan Kath. “There are just so many different things that you can mimic.”
It looks like there are more than 400 different items in Prey that we can pretend to be in the game and some unassuming ones look like we will need to use for specific purposes. It also looks like taking the form also gives us some of the properties besides being able to fire and such. I am talking about the banana there that looks like how one could actually travel in space without dying. This could just be how the shot was captured by Arkane Studios, but it does give the impression that while in the form that the environment challenges pose no threat. Unless you are falling. That looks like it will shunt us out of the mimed form in Prey.
How do you feel about the mimic power in Prey now that we've seen it in action for the first true time? What other items do you think we can take the form of in the game that we have not seen yet? Do you think you become immune to the vacuum of space while in inanimate form or will that carry over and not shown here in the game? Give us all your thoughts and discuss down in the comments section. Hopefully we will see more for Prey here soon and when we do we will have it here for you on the site. Be sure to stay tuned in so you don't miss out on a thing as we get closer to the May 5th release date.
